Up your green credentials…
Eco-friendliness begins at home, so make sure you’re doing your bit with these solutions to six common trouble spots
A spot of spring cleaning usually ends with a pile of unwanted medicines headed straight for the rubbish. With disposal options limited, – you either flush them down the toilet (exposing them to your water supply); toss them directly into the bin, where they end up on a landfill site and leak; or they’re eaten by scavenging animals, who release them into surrounding water and soil. Eco solution: Pharmacies often have a disposal programme, or you can contact your nearest hospital to see if medication can be dropped off to be incinerated. If binning it is your only option, seal unwanted medicine in a leak-proof bag, and fill it with coffee beans or cat litter. This will minimise spillage, and the filling will make the bag smell less interesting to any animals in search of a snack. >
