Primestream Provides Unprecedented
Logging and Anywhere Access
Producing high quality broadcast programming, and making money doing so from these programmes,
is impossible without adding accurate metadata to the video assets (logging)…

aving thorough and accurate
metadata-logging is absolutely
critical if producers and editors are
to be able to call up a particular
piece of video – and, more
importantly, the “event” that
occurred within that video – from
a vast archive at the exact moment
they need it.
Metadata is important not just
because it describes assets, but
also because it can be used as a
basis to ﬁnd, ﬁlter, and use assets
that meet certain criteria for future
use. The ability to improve the
metadata-logging process is key
to the ability to monetise media
assets. If you can’t ﬁnd it, then you
absolutely can’t make money from it.
Precise metadata-logging is one
important way for broadcasters to
monetise content effectively, rather
than letting it clutter the archive,
never to be seen again. It’s an
essential but tedious and timeconsuming process. It can take a
dedicated content logger several
hours to tag a single game, and
that person is often hampered by
typing within an inﬂexible interface,
or by products that don’t integrate
well with other systems. Also, many
logging products can only provide
one or two layers of detail, and
are not designed for live logging
into an asset management archive
with automation.
In order to avoid leaving video in
the vault and money on the table,
broadcasters need a way to log
metadata quickly and easily, for
sports or any other content, with
an inﬁnite level of detail. And since
content can be delivered live or prerecorded, the logging tool needs to
be conﬁgurable enough to change
gears quickly from live or recorded
video and from one type of content
to another – be it sports, news,
reality TV, game shows, and more.

It allows for logging live or prerecorded video, and its interface
is completely customisable. It
can also be reconﬁgured instantly
to adapt to different types of
content. The module’s tightly
integrated user interface enables
content loggers to tag video with
deﬁned metadata into the FORK
environment effortlessly, making
assets easier to manage, automate,
and, ultimately, monetise.
FORK Logger supports multiple
layouts per system. Users can work
live with ingesting feeds or call up
existing clips inside FORK. They can
also log video ﬁles so that they can
be searched, ﬁltered, and organised
by any metadata entry inside FORK
Content Navigator, FORK’s media
asset manager.
At the heart of the FORK Logger
is a dynamic GUI containing form
panels, button panels, video viewers,
marker thumbnail lists, and a bin list
of created events, all of which are
tools that can be combined based
on the content. Logger makes
adding metadata to video easy,
fast and accurate. Users click or
tap on predeﬁned buttons based on
what they see. The speed of sports
requires technology that enables
humans to work at the same pace.
And even though it was developed
with sports in mind, Logger’s UI
can easily be adapted for any other
content where the ability to search is
necessary. This includes logging for

archives. Logger works with FORK’s
Multi-Ingest module to enables
these users to catalogue on the fly.
As with FORK Content Navigator,
FORK Logger allows more than
one user to log the same clip at the
same time, and all created events
are accessible instantly by the other
loggers or FORK users.
Although FORK Logger was
designed to help sports broadcasters
dig through their content quickly, it
takes on a life outside the studio
when paired with FORK Xchange
Suite - the application that gives
broadcasters instant web access to
content on their FORK Production
servers from any Windows, Mac,
or iOS device.

MAM in the cloud. It allows
broadcasters and content owners
to integrate their entire workﬂow in
the cloud as well. Xchange provides
the tools to add metadata; make
edits; and trigger automation
actions such as send to archive,

social media, review, and approve.
