ESB Networks Staff move from Osprey
House to Finglas and Leopardstown
8 ESB Networks staff have successfully completed the move to Finglas and Leopardstown Road
after 33 years in Osprey House.
ESB'S DISTRIBUTION DEPARTMENT moved to Osprey House on
November 24th, 1980. Distribution
Department existed in ESB for 51
years. In 2000 - the year of the Millennium - that all changed. A major
re-organisation took place and the
newly named Asset Management and
Regulation, headed by John Kirby,
came into being, in the ESB Networks
Business. Market Opening also happened on February 18th, 2000. It was
an exciting year!
When Osprey House first opened a
'meals on wheels' service operated to
there from the Head Office canteen
for a while until the Bianca restaurant
(named after a nightclub that had existed in the building) was opened.
The surrounding location changed
dramatically from 1980. A large
working abattoir, which released an
unpleasant smell, was located over
the bridge where the Accenture and
BT offices are now. We witnessed the
transformation of the old Boland's
Bakery building to the new Treasury
Building and the erection of the 'Aspiration' sculpture (Ronan Gillespie),
which relates to the Easter Rising and
to the future of Ireland, on the building. Sir Patrick Dun's Hospital was
closed, sold off and then re-purchased
by the Health Authority during this
time. We watched as many beautiful
brides and grooms went to and from
their weddings at the Registry Office.
Osprey always was a centre of
technical excellence in all aspects of
electricity distribution, coupled with
seeking solutions to technical problems and enhancing work methods.
Some of the initiatives which were
developed in Osprey House since
1980 include:
* Live line working
* Customer Service from a Distribution perspective
* Quality Network Data Management
* Cabling the Offshore Islands
* Public Service Obligation Project
* MOIP (Market Opening)
* MRSO (Meter Regulation System
Operation)
* Going live with ARM (Asset Register
and Maintenance)
* OMS (Operations Management System)
* DFIS (Distribution Facilities Information System)
* IWM (Integrated Work Manage-
ment)
* PAS 55 Accreditation for Asset
Management
* ESB Networks as DSO (Distribution
Systems Operator)
* Emergency Restoration
* Network Assets and Procurement
* OSS (Optimised Scheduling System)
Many engineering and technical
staff were seconded from Distribution Department as it was then on
the setting up of ESB International.
A great sense of camaraderie
and inclusion always existed over
the years in Osprey. There was a
vibrant social and sporting culture,
coupled with good participation in
any fund-raising events. At a five-aside indoor soccer charity event one
evening in SPORTSCO, one staff
member inadvertently scored a basket (basketball) while endeavouring
to score a goal. This may well have
been a first world record, which may
still stand today!
Cupid may well have also resided
in Osprey in the early years as many
a love story came to pass with resultant marriages amongst staff.
A get-together for all the staff who
moved from Osprey House was hosted by Head of Asset Management on
Friday evening October 18th. The
event was very well attended and
enjoyed by all.
Move to Finglas
On September 8th the following
teams from Osprey House moved to
St Margaret's Road, Finglas.
Asset Management teams:
* Purchasing
* Central Site and ARA
Systems and Sustainability teams:
* Meter Regulation System Operation
(MRSO)
On the day they arrived they were
welcomed by John McManus, Divisional Manager, Dublin North and
his team and they completed a Safety
Induction.
The move went very smoothly,
thanks to the hard work by all concerned.
Our teams have settled into Finglas very well and have been made
feel very welcome. A welcome pack
was developed for the staff. The offices have been fitted to a high standard, which has received very positive
feedback.
The Finglas location also has advantages for many, with easy access
to the M50, the availability of parking
and the Charlestown Shopping Centre
and other shopping and dining outlets
nearby.
Move to Leopardstown
On October 20th the following teams
moved from Osprey House to Leopardstown Road.
Front row (l-r): Aoife McGettrick, Denise Byrne, Leon Bird, Rob Cope, Kevin Roche and Emer Corcoran.
Back row (l-r): Declan Sheridan, Noel Lambe, John Finnegan, Fergus Grimes, Ronan O'hOgartaigh, Emma
Hogan, Tom Cunningham, Wayne McGuire and Paul Murphy.
Asset Management teams:
* Operations
* Networks Planning & Investment
* Overhead Lines, Underground Networks and HV Stations
* Programme Management (except
Central Site and ARA)
* Finance and Regulation
* Asset Management Senior Team
Also, the Profile Data Services,
Systems and Sustainability have temporarily move to Arena House nearby, to join HV Customer and Business Performance, HV Programme
Management and Safety Services.
They will move to the upgraded Scada Building before year-end.
Once again the move to Leopardstown went very well. Even though
the refurbishment of the Leopardstown premises was not fully completed, staff moved willingly, without complaint and set about adapting
to their new home. Mike Fitzgerald,
Divisional Manager Dublin South
and his team made the teams very
welcome in both the Leopardstown
Road and Arena House locations and
a welcome pack had also been developed for the arriving staff. Mike
completed a Safety Induction with
the teams when they arrived.
Leopardstown Road also has many
advantages. Our teams are impressed
with the high standard at which the
offices are fitted. Once again there
is ease of access to the M50, parking
available and excellent Canteen and
Tea Room facilities. Leopardstown is
also well served by public transport -
Luas and bus. Staff have to go a little
further for shopping, with Stillorgan,
Blackrock and Dundrum Shopping
Centres within 3km. n
Dave O'Connell, Caoimhin O'Briain, Paddy
Crowley, Hugh Connaughton at the new small
meeting room, ground floor.
Graham Tobin, Barry Meehan, Stephan
Tracey ad Pat Dowling at the refurbished
open plan office, first floor.
Thank you!
Thank you to the many people who
made this move happen successfully: our union officials and staff
representatives who supported both
management and staff before, during and after the move; teams from
ESB International, Facilities, Telecoms, IT Services and Premises,
who ensured that all offices were up
and running when the move took
place and ably and willingly dealt
with any problems since the move.
Derek Hynes, Keith Moore, Mary Power
and Kristina Orro at the refurbished
open plan office, ground floor.
Pat Byrne, Denise Byrne, Peter O'Loghlen,
Tom Cunningham, Wayne, Emer Corcoran,
Gerry Halligan.
Most particularly, thank you to
the staff in Asset Management and
Systems and Sustainability, who
demonstrated great co-operation,
goodwill and flexibility as they
moved, and also to those teams in
Finglas and Leopardstown Road,
who dealt with the disruption as
the new offices were being made
ready and who have made the
incoming teams very welcome in
their new locations.
