AFTER A WEEK-LONG campaign that saw thousands of people across Ireland and throughout the world doing kind deeds for charity, Electric Ireland presented Childline with a cheque for €60,000 after they received the most pledged deeds. Special Olympics Ireland and Breakthrough Cancer Research, both received cheques for €40,000 and €30,000 respectively. Liam Molloy, Manager ITS and CIO and Jim Dollard, Executive Director, BSC & Electric Ireland. A KEY PRIORITY for ITS has been the benchmarking of our Opex and Capex, which are now in line with external peer groups. Liam outlined the strong focus in ITS's 2013-2017 Strategy on customer satisfaction and the effective rollout of approved IT projects throughout ESB. He also defined the role of the CIO across the ESB group and its importance in ensuring consistency in the application of Governance structures. The Senior Management Team presented the programme of work for 2014 and the challenges for their respective business areas. Among these was the need to grow our Project Management capability and become the system integrator of choice. IT is changing rapidly and this has seen a change in the way we resource and deliver many of the projects for our customers. Significant savings were made in 2013 by working closely with our customers in managing project scopes and innovative use of resources. n In the IT security area there are continuous efforts and threats to breach our security systems. As many as 13 million emails are received per month and 91% of these are rejected for security reasons. ESB has one of the most technologically advanced IT infrastructures in the country. New technologies are being developed to ensure that ESB is meeting its business objectives e.g. Carrington Power Plant, Smart Metering and the Finance Transformation Programme. Supporting the successful deploy- ment of these systems is a major element of ITS's work. Managing the large amount of data on the system is a key driver to reduce storage costs and infrastructure expansion, thus providing significant savings for our customers. Jim Dollard, Executive Director BSC & Electric Ireland, delivered the conference closing address and outlined his key priority for 2014, which is continuous improvement through rigorously challenging how we operate with a particular focus on customer service. n Pictured (l-r) are the ITS Senior Management Team: Arthur Hutchinson, Eoghan Barrett, Alan McDunphy, Vera Miller, Liam Molloy and Diarmuid Fenelon from Finance, BSC and Electric Ireland. Electric Ireland Powering Kindness is a simple initiative designed to encourage people to do an act of kindness and bank it in favour of one of three charities. From November 2nd to 8th, the campaign captured the imagination of people around Ireland and internationally as the goodwill movement spread. In excess of 45,000 deeds were logged at www.poweringkindness.ie, through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and by text message. Staff also got involved by donating their time as their good deed and we were treated to a painting workshop, photography masterclass, Japanese and Irish lessons, as well as a coffee and cake morning where staff baked delicious treats for colleagues to enjoy. The award-winning Happy Pear from Greystones in Co.
