The OECD strengthened its guidelines for multinational companies and their investors operating in World Heritage sites, meaning they can be held to account for any damaging activities. With fewer than 30 of these porpoises left in the wild, Mexico agreed emergency measures to protect the world's most endangered marine mammal, the vaquita, including a permanent ban on lethal gillnets in the Gulf of California World Heritage site.
