RSI Conquers Challenges
With LOUISE BMS From PCI

SI is the general interest Italianlanguage broadcaster of the
national Swiss media group SSR,
operating two channels.
The relationship between PCI and
RSI built up over the years, starting
more than a decade ago when RSI
started seeking a "trafﬁc" solution
to improve scheduling. RSI chose
LOUISE whose implementation
was an outstanding success in
terms of improved productivity and
streamlined workﬂows: RSI planners
had immediate access to content,
relevant metadata and graphical

scheduling grids along with builtin tools. It helped eliminate repetitive
tasks as well as many induced errors.
After such a major upgrade, RSI
was ready to tackle the next phase:
shifting from physical media to ﬁlebased assets and migrating from SD
to HD. "This is when we realised that
LOUISE was, in fact, much more
than a trafﬁc system," says Roberto
Pomari, RSI's Deputy Director.
"While we were merely looking for
a solution, we ended up ﬁnding
a strong partner in PCI: LOUISE
started deploying way beyond

what it had originally been acquired
for, becoming a key part of RSI's
strategic and business planning".
Meanwhile, PCI was accompanying
RSI every step of the way.
LOUISE is an integrated Business
Management System managing
both linear and nonlinear services,
managing programme information
in its centralised database including
its rights, uses and associated
metadata. Its superior and
seamless integration capability was
essential as RSI began upgrading
to an all-digital, HD environment
with new ingest and automation
systems, a SOA backbone and
other components.

like solutions involving third party
development: all LOUISE tools
and modules interact seamlessly
together and combine with each
other, making them very powerful",
says Mr. Pomari.
For example, with the combined
use of MediaBench (facilitating
content repurposing for promo or
enhanced video extracts creation)
and Mogador (automating the
delivery of content in appropriate
formats and its metadata to EPGs,
websites, mobile devices, etc.)
RSI was able to recently
restructure its technical production
platform and optimise content for
broadband delivery and web-based
applications.
The partnership between PCI and
RSI is such now that RSI's natural
behaviour is to consult PCI before
making decisions in the evolution
of their business and technical
workflow: LOUISE might just
have the most cost and/or timeeffective solution.

FORK also features new archiving
workﬂows with SGL, Quantum, and
Atempo enabling FORK users to
navigate/browse, search, and ﬁlter

through content inside Content
Navigator - even when the hi-res
media has been archived and
is ofﬂine. Other beneﬁts include
partial ﬁle restore and LTO robotics
control. FORK is available for Mac
and Windows OS as well as hybrid
environments.
The 2014 NAB Show will see the
introduction of FORK Xchange Suite
3.0, a major upgrade to the Web
and iOS application that provides
instant access to content on FORK
Production servers. Single and
multi-site production operations
can now access their media from
anywhere to manage, create, and
trigger various FORK automations
- enabling seamless hybrid cloud/
ground workﬂows to interface all
technologies such as archiving and
popular NLE craft editors. Xchange

3.0 also features a completely
redesigned iPad interface optimised
for Apple iOS 7.
Primestream will also introduce
Archive Bridge, a new module
for the FORK Production Suite
that provides tight integrations
between industry-leading archival
solutions and the FORK media asset
management platform.
With
Archive
Bridge,
administrators can track the
status of all archival requests and
analyse the performance of the
infrastructure. Archive Bridge is a
highly conﬁgurable client with a
Web-based front end and intuitive
user interface.
Optimised for both Windows
and Mac platforms, it integrates
multiple production environments
with a central archive point to
reduce operational costs by
centralising archival infrastructure
in one location and allow
disaster recovery solutions
for offsite Archival workflows.
Statistics Reporting empowers
