As the year draws to a close it is always a good time to reflect on the positive things in our lives. While it might not have been the best of years for some - maybe due to illness or bereavements in our families or circle of friends - there are always good things to look back on. Even where some things may not have worked out for us there are usually lessons to be learned or at least we are all the wiser for what occurred. It is markedly noticeable that the good weather lifted spirits as it did in 2013 and the improving economy, particularly this year, saw people starting to feel more positive again. We can all make new year resolutions, but it's often better just to reflect on the good things in our lives and focus on building on those in the coming year. It's easy to get into a negative rut and many wise people have written about 'the power of positive thinking' and staying away from 'negative influences' but it really does work. So for the new year, instead of making lots of resolutions we probably won't keep, let's make it a year of positivity and focussing on the good in our lives and what we are grateful for. Can I wish you all a peaceful and happy Christmas and a great 2015. Kind regards Retired staff days out Cork retired staff had two great outings during 2014, on June 11th, sixty five members went on the Summer outing to Mizen Head, Crookhaven, Barleycove and Ballydehob. We were lucky enough to arrange for the 1st day of summer to coincide with our trip. Our two coach loads had a wonderful day finishing off with a music session in The Irish Whip bar in Ballydehob followed by a wonderful dinner in West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen - everyone was ready for the bed by the time we returned to the city around midnight. On 2nd November, 42 members enjoyed a great day out at Cork Grand National race meeting at Mallow races. This was a first time at the races for many of the members, but one way or another most managed to show a profit on the day. We had a lovely lunch and viewing facilities in the corporate suite and a great music session in Rathduff on the way home, with music supplied by retired staff Liam Buckley and Paddy Sheehan. We intend to have some extra events during 2015, but need to have either email or mobile phone contacts for retired members as postage is too expensive for multiple contacts. The committee would be obliged if members would send their mobile numbers or email addresses to our Secretary, Liam Buckley at 087-2322253 or homeliam2@gmail.com.
