ESB Feis Ceoil
8 Classical music played with a whole new energy.
5,000 OF IRELAND'S best young
classical musicians gathered at the
RDS to compete in the ESB Feis Ceoil
from Monday, March 31st to Friday,
April 11th, 2014.
There's a whole new energy at the
ESB Feis Ceoil this year, as thousands
of young classical musicians from
across Ireland compete in over 180
individual music competitions at the
11-day annual festival.
Brid Horan, Deputy Chief Executive, ESB, said: "ESB is proud to
support Feis Ceoil, Ireland's biggest
classical music festival, which plays a
vital role in the development of young
musicians in Ireland. We are delighted
to showcase the ESB Choir of the Year
competition and welcome the new addition of the Conducting Competitions. During the event the RDS will
become home to some of Ireland's
most talented young classical musicians. We wish them every success in
their competitions and their ongoing
musical pursuits". n
ESB IS DELIGHTED to announce
that Number 29 is open to visitors following an annual conservation, cleaning and maintenance programme,
which takes place from late December
to mid February each year.
Visitors can now view the exhibition as a self guided visit or pre-book
a fully guided tour from the basement
to the attic, through rooms which
have been furnished with original
artefacts as they would have been in
the years 1790 - 1820. A visit to the
museum gives young and old alike a
chance to experience what life was
like for the fortunate who lived in
such elegant townhouses, and the less
fortunate who worked in them.
While the experience is primarily designed to be self guided, new
information kiosks and story boards
have been installed and provide background information on the history
of the period and the house - giving
information on how each room was
used for family life and further details

tural and political history of the late
Georgian capital. We aim to make
this museum as engaging as possible
to as broad a cross section of Irish
and international audiences as can
be achieved. We also believe that the
museum should function as a social
and cultural focal point for local and
wider communities. Number 29 has
served as an inspiration to interior designers and house restorers.
The collection on display in the Museum is drawn from the National Museum of Ireland and from the ESB Art
Collection. Vital support is received
in loans from The National Gallery
of Ireland, An Post, IBEC and the
Church of Ireland College of Education. We are grateful also for the continued support of many private lenders and donors. n
