ESB NETWORKS received an invitation from President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabrina to attend a function at Aras an Uachtarain on St Patrick's Day to acknowledge the work of the emergency services during the recent storms. ESB Networks were honoured to attend and a group of staff representing their colleagues heard the President thank all staff in ESB Networks for the tireless work carried out in very difficult conditions over recent storms. The President recounted fond memories of his time working in ESB during the 1960s in Galway and chatted with the ESB Networks representatives afterwards. CONGRATULATIONS TO ESB Networks staff in Drogheda for reaching 4,270 days (at time of going to press) since their last lost time incident (LTI). A 4,000 day safety milestone was passed on June 28th, 2013 and staff along with their supervisors and managers took time out to mark the occasion and to reflect on the years of working without any LTIs. Congratulations and best wishes were relayed to the staff involved from all parts of the business. Acting Head of Distribution & Customer Service Mike Fitzgerald along with Divisional Manager John McManus joined in the celebrations on the day and both expressed their gratitude for all the hard work undertaken by all involved and wished them well to the future. "4,000 days, or almost 11 years, without an LTI is a very special achievement," said Mike. John added: "It is a source of great pride to the Drogheda staff both past and present." Area Manager Dave O'Neill and Customer Services Supervisor Frank Coyne said they were delighted with the achievement and thanked each and every one of the staff involved for their input. The Northern Distribution Control Centre controls and operates 10kV, 20kV, 38kV and 110kV distribution network using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and OMS (Operations Management System) IT systems. The new control centre was customdesigned by ESB Networks, ESB International and French design company Ink Design. The old facility, also located in Leopardstown, will be retained as a fully functioning standby control centre.
