ESB NETWORKS LAUNCHES NETWORKS 2027 STRATEGY 8 ESB Networks formally launched its Networks 2027 strategy at the National Power and Electricity Summit in Croke Park in March. THE STRATEGY LAYS out a range of commitments to our customers and the steps we will take over the coming years to deliver on them. The document details the projects, plans, collaborations and actions which ESB Networks will take to convert the five rings integrated smart networks model into a reality by 2027. Reflecting on the history of the ESB and our record of continual development and progress, Networks 2027 steps though our path from rural electrification to the present, plotting the significant milestones along the way. These include the development of our Networks 2027 is driven by our evolving customer needs and our ambition to afford all customers every opportunity to engage with the future electricity system and energy aware customers as technology develops. This strategy is designed to effectively deal with the new challenges and opportunities arising in the form of increasing penetrations of renewable generation, smart grids, smart metering and market opening in a cohesive cost-effective manner. It also addresses other important issues facing us, from data security and Big Data management, storm resilience, communicating with our customers in real time and providing efficient flexible networks where new products, services and innovation can be fostered. It also highlights the new flexible and accessible ways we will engage with customers and provides firm commitments on what we will deliver over the next decade. continued on page 24 Over 20,000 apply to take part in ESB's Great Electric Drive Over 20,000 applicants were received for this year's Great Electric Drive, which offers people and commercial businesses the chance to join a new team of ecar ambassadors and trial an electric vehicle. The number of applications has almost doubled in comparison to the first Great Electric Drive. Focus on Asset Assurance & Engineering ESB's history of power plants has evolved from hydro turbines in the 1920's to high-tech specifications today. Number 29 opens to the public ESB is delighted to announce that Number 29 is open to visitors following an annual conservation, cleaning and maintenance programme, which takes place from late December to mid February each year. Electric Ireland launches Powering Rewards Electric Ireland launched its first loyalty programme, Powering Rewards, on March 9th last.
