Energy conservation and reduction is a key priority for Greiner and the Dungannon plant has set a target of reducing overall energy consumption by 50% by the end of 2012. to this end the company has invested $1.3m in a new cooling and heat recovery system, the first of this type in the uK and one of only 10 worldwide. they installed a new compressed air system and implemented an energy awareness campaign to educate staff. in January, the company also announced a $2.7m investment in two new projects which aim to enhance Greiner’s competitiveness and establish the facility as a leader in energy management through the development and integration of energy efficiency measures. ESBiE will now be supplying 15 GW energy per annum to the plant; an arrangement which sees the company aligning energy supply within its overall efficiency strategy. commenting Jarek Zasadzinski, chief Executive Greiner Packaging said, “this energy supply arrangement with ESB independent Energy represents a key asset for Greiner as it facilitates us in ensuring energy supply fits within the company’s commitment to increasing operating efficiency.
