4YOU SAFETY COACHING –
SUPPORTING SAFETY LEADERS
4you safety coaches attend a three-day in-house coaching course to develop their safety coaching
skills and techniques to support the 4you Safety Leadership Programme.
TO SUPPORT THE 4you Safety
Leadership Programme and to empower safety leaders to demonstrate
positive health and safety behaviours
and skills in the workplace, the 4you
team has designed a safety coaching
approach. Safety coaching has been
found to be the most effective way
in which to embed behaviour change
for health, wellbeing and safety. The
coaching approach involves 4you
safety coaches providing four oneto-one safety coaching sessions over
six months to each safety leader who
takes part in the 4you Safety Leadership Programme.
A safety leader is a person who
cares enough to take the action to
keep themselves and others free from
danger or injury through guidance, en-
couragement, direction and setting
the example. Anyone can be a safety
leader – it exists within all of us!
To date, the 4you team has identified twelve 4you safety coaches from
within Generation & Wholesale
Markets (G&WM) to deliver coaching to safety leaders.
During April, Dave O’Brien, ESB’s
executive coach, with the support
of Fiona Kennedy from the 4you
team, delivered a three-day safety
coaching course to the 4you safety
coaches. The three days were highly
interactive and focused on imparting skills relevant for coaching, such
as rapport building, active listening,
goal setting and feedback as well as
knowledge around particular coaching methods and approaches. Time
was also given to practising the application of these skills and techniques in coaching triads.
A further three-day safety coaching training
programme will be run later this year to support the development of 4you safety coaches for
both G&WM and Networks. If you are interested
in becoming a 4you coach, please email Jennifer

Chair; Kieran Tubridy, Wind Farm Stakeholder

MYNYDD Y BETWS WIND FARM is located in Amman Valley in south Wales and
consists of 15 Siemens 2.3MW turbines for
a total of 34.5MW. The project has been
very successful, with the turbines currently
completing their reliability runs. Over the
past year ESB have been working with our
partners, Carmarthenshire County Council, in order to establish a community fund
which will benefit the community near the
wind farm. Mynydd y Betws Wind Farm
community benefit fund has been set up to
support community projects that address
local need and create vibrant and sustainable communities in the wards of Ammanford, Betws, Garnant, Glanaman, Llandybie, Pontaman, Penygroes, Saron, Tycroes

THE SEA-PT (SHANNON Estuary
Anti-Pollution Team) consists of the
Port Company, Local Authorities and
oil/coal importers and was initiated to
form a unified coordinated response to
pollution incidents on the Shannon Estuary. The team has been in operation
for the past 19 years under a committee of the nominated pollution officers
representing each of the members. The
most active member is SFPC who call
and chair the meetings, organise training courses and exercises and ensure
maintenance of equipment.
SFPC assists the nominated county
in preparing annual exercises. Roles
and
responsibilities within
SEAPT
rest mainly
with the Port
Company,
who
organise all maintenance, purchases, meetings, annual
accounts and audits, training courses
and help organize and run exercises.
Each member contributed initially to
provide pollution response equipment
and support tools. This equipment is
available to respond to any pollution
incident or threat involving any of its
and Cwarter Bach.
The formal launch took place on April
22nd in Gellimanwydd Hall, Heol Wallasey, Ammanford, with a large turnout of
representatives from all the eligible wards.
It was followed by a drop-in funding surgery. Carmarthenshire County Council
chair Cllr Siân Thomas said money from
the fund would be a much-needed benefit
to communities around the windfarm.
The levels of available grant are: £500£5,000, up to 90% grant; £5,001-£25,000,
up to 80% grant; and £25,001-£50,000, up
to 70% grant.
Council community regeneration manager (Valleys) Amy Hawkins said: “There
will be at least two funding rounds a year
and we anticipate significantly more than
two funding panels this year.” Council
leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “The fund
could make a significant difference to the
wellbeing of this valley. Further funding surgeries also took place in the Black
Mountain Centre and Penygroes Welfare
Hall, Waterloo Road, Penygroes.
Another fund designed to benefit four
wards in Neath Port Talbot will be launch
later in the summer.
