ESB ECARS RECENTLY exhibited in the
electric vehicle pavilion at this year’s SEAI
Energy Show in the RDS. The show ran
over the course of two days and was officially launched by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources,
Pat Rabbitte.
ESB ecars display stand showcased our
electric vehicle charge point network and
featured a 100% electric Nissan LEAF car.
The stand also displayed Irish manufactured home and public charge points from
M2C and EVEO, just two of a number of
Irish companies that ESB ecars is working
within the roll-out and maintenance of the
EV charge point system. ESB ecars display
stand attracted great interest from the attending public, with many stopping to see
the Nissan LEAF and ask questions about
the charging infrastructure. n

Another year, another win
for ESBI at ESB GAA 7s
Pictured are SEAI Chief Executive Dr Brian Motherway, Minister for Communications Energy and Natural
Resources, Pat Rabbitte and EU Commissioner Maire Geoghegan Quinn with an ESB ecar at the sixth
Conference of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
ESB ECARS RECENTLY ran a series
of test drives for EU delegates at the
Strategic Energy Technology (SET)
Plan Conference held at the Royal
Hospital, Kilmainham in Dublin.
The conference was officially
opened by Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources,
Pat Rabbitte TD, and featured 330 delegates from all over Europe. European
Commissioner for Research and Innovation, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn and
European Commissioner for Energy,
Günther H. Oettinger also addressed
the event.
Over the course of the two-day
Conference, delegates were offered
the opportunity to trial one of four
100% electric vehicles during breaks
at the conference meetings.
Delegates had the choice of trialling a Renault Fluence Z.E. or Renault
Twizy, supplied by Renault Ireland;
a Mitsubishi iMiEV, supplied by Mitsubishi; or a Nissan LEAF, supplied by
ESB ecars. Staff from ESB ecars and
Mitsubishi were also on hand to provide information and guidance for the
delegates during their drives. The test
drives drew a lot of attention over the
course of the conference with over 30
attendees test-driving the electric
vehicles. n

ESB branded ecars at the new fast charge point in the Lusk Southbound Applegreen station.
THE INTRODUCTION OF the latest fast
charge points under the Ten-T programme
has provided a welcome boost in the number of high-speed charge points on major
inter urban routes in Ireland
Six new fast charge points are now
operational at the Applegreen flagship
Motorway Service Areas in Lusk, CastleBellingham and Enfield. The new highspeed chargers, capable of charging an
electric vehicle up to 80% in 20 minutes,
will make it easier for drivers to top up on
main routes.
ESB, together with the Department for
Regional Development Northern Ireland
(DRD NI), has begun the roll-out of the
46 new fast chargers (41 in the Republic,
five in Northern Ireland). The fast chargepoints will be installed along the key interurban routes as well as transport hubs
such as airports and ports, building on the
network of fast chargers already in place.
This roll-out is part -unded with €2.1
million from the EU, to provide 50%
funding for the project. The funding has
been secured under the EU Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
ESB is currently rolling out an electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure
across Ireland. At present there are nearly
1,300 installed charge-points covering
every county and 90% of big cities and
towns. The €2.1m funding has been secured under the EU Trans-European
Transport Network (TEN-T). n
