www.esb.ie/em August/September 2012 SERVICES anD ELECTRIC IRELanD 15 Energy Efficient retrofit in Tralee eleCTRiC iReland in conjunction with Tralee Town Council and the seai has completed a substantial energy efficiency retrofit project in the town of Tralee. mitchell’s estate in the town was identified as being in need of major regeneration to deal with the underlying economic and social problems that have affected the area to an increasing extent in recent years. in total, 83 homes benefitted from the work in the mitchell’s estate area of the town. electric ireland contractors installed external wall insulation and attic insulation all of which contribute to Better energy Rating Targets. The benefits to the homeowners are substantial; reduced heating bills, improved comfort conditions and a healthier environment. The visual aesthetics of the homes completed have been improved dramatically; with no need to repaint for a very long time. The project was completed between december 2011 and early april 2012. The scale of the project is not to be underestimated, given the challenging weather conditions it is testament to the professionalism of all involved that the project was delivered in such a tight timeline and with no lost Time incidents. “The project could not have been completed without the cooperation of the tenants. despite having to put up with inconvenience and unsightly scaffolding, they never complained,” said sean mooney, Contracting manager, electric ireland. ESB sponsors prizes at the RHA 182nd Annual Exhibition 8 ESB honours two former chief executives, Thomas McLaughlin and Joe Moran, at the Royal Hibernian Academy’s annual exhibition prize-giving day in the Open section of the exhibition. a judging panel of RHa members who are artists decide which works are to be selected. The open section normally consists of about 300-350 art works which have been submitted. The competition to have work included in the open section is very keen and normally the selection panel view about 3000 works before deciding which items are to be selected. The work selected in the Open section normally reflects the work of about 70-80 independent artists. Over the last number of years esB has been sponsoring two prizes at this exhibition which generally receives more visitors than any other annual exhibition in the country. esB believes that these awards for art and sculpture will help profile the importance of visual arts and the contribution it can make not only to enhancing the workplace but also to help provide us with a better appreciation of the relevance of art in all its forms in our daily lives. THe RHa annual exhibition is regarded as one if not the most important annual art exhibition in ireland each year. This year will see the 182nd showing of the RHa annual exhibition which runs from 25th may – 18th august. it is the longest running open submission exhibition in the country. The RHa annual exhibition is divided into two sections. The closed section of the exhibition consists of about 200 works which are submitted by full RHa members and associate members. submissions are invited for artists who would like to have a work(s) included The Keating/mc laughlin award for painting in year 2012 (a silver medal and Cash award of €3,000) was presented to artist miseon lee by Brid Horan, executive director esB services & electric ireland for her painting titled my diary no 5. The Connor/moran award for sculpture for year 2012 (a silver medal and Cash award of €3,000) was presented to michelle Byrne for the sculpture Journey by Cathleen moran, wife of the late Joe moran esB’s former Chief executive from 1991 – 1996. n eleCTRiC iReland sponsored the Business in the Community awards that took place on Thursday may 31st at the Titanic signature Building in Belfast. This gala event had more than 530 people in attendance and it celebrated businesses and organisations that have a positive impact on northern ireland’s community. Five businesses from across northern ireland won awards for their Responsible Business practices and a fur- ther six were recognised with Regional impact awards. speaking at the event, electric ireland Business markets manager susan Kinane said, “i congratulate the businesses that have achieved an award.
