Electric Picnic 2011 ThIs year esB electric Ireland teamed up with comedian Karl spain to announce details of its energy-efficient playground for grown-ups at electric Picnic where festival-goers played and used the energy they generated to charge their phones – energy efficiency was never so much fun! Over the course of a campaign we ran two competitions for electric Picnic tickets. The first was on Facebook to win a pair of tickets a day for five days and in just a few short days we had over 8000 Likes on our Facebook page. we also hosted a daily Tweet hunt for Tickets in five different locations around Ireland. each day, the combined tweets revealed the location of our esB electric Ireland sparkhead who was hiding somewhere in Ireland. To find him, everyone had to tweet #shareTheenergy. each day on our Facebook page we displayed an aerial map of Ireland. The more times #shareTheenergy was tweeted, the closer the map zoomed to the sparkheads location. Once sufficient tweets were reached people were able to see sparkhead’s general location. all they had to do was keep tweeting, and the map zoomed in closer, making that location more and more specific, until sparkhead himself appeared on the map. when the sparkhead appeared, he also revealed his daily codeword and that’s when things got really exciting. The first person to approach him at his revealed location each day and tell him the daily codeword won five tickets to electric Picnic. all of this was captured on video, just log onto our Facebook page to see the excitement. we had over 56,000 views of the Facebook app, and over 10,000 tweets over the course of the campaign. This type of tweet hunt was the first of its kind in europe. at the festival this year esB electric Ireland had a playground for grown ups supported by a fantastic line up of comedians who provided the laughs. The comedians recruited festival-goers to use the playground. From the adult sized merry-go-round to the giant hamster wheel and see-saw, every part of the playground generated energy. Fifteen bikes were positioned in the Park so that festival-goers could charge their mobile phones for free. The comedians hosted a number of mini challenges throughout the weekend inviting playground visitors to form Charging phones was never so much fun. Festival-goers get the wheels in motion and share their energy. On duty at Electric Picnic over the weekend were: Kevin Ryan, Mairead Walsh, Lisa Browne, Grace Counihan, Trish Canty, Edel McCarthy and Aisling Brogan. In addition, festival-goers had their festival look energised by having their faces painted with neon Thunderbolts. andrew stanley, one of the top comics working the worldwide comedy circuit, kicked off proceedings on the Friday night. Part of Dublin’s 98FM popular drive time show duo, and republic of Telly host Dermot whelan was on hand to get people motivated on saturday afternoon followed by the unmissable Damian clark. The final session on saturday was Mc’d by the very funny and charming, Gearoid Farrelly. esB electric Ireland also provided 6 km of energy efficient festoon lighting around the camp sites and walk ways to the main arena, which has reduced the festival’s lighting emissions by 80%. In addition, esB e-cars transported artists around the festival site this year, keeping sustainability at the heart of the electric Picnic. This new research was revealed as the rsa and esB electric Ireland announced the distribution of 80,000 high visibility vests to every child starting school this year. This initiative will help to keep our youngest and most vulnerable road-users safe on the roads when walking or cycling to school.” esB Deputy chief executive Johnny shine said, “we are delighted to partner with the rsa once again to promote road safety among our youngest road-users. Over the coming weeks, 80,000 high-visibility vests will be distributed nationwide to children starting school to make sure they are clearly visible on the roads at all times.
