ONSIDE / FEATURE

It's an iconic symbol of design, resilience and a true British
classic icon that oozes class and tradition. But now Twisted
Automotive is stepping up the manufacture of bespoke
luxury versions of the Land Rover Defender and has placed
a £7m order for 240 new Defenders. The order will secure
the company's pipeline of product for the next two years.
Based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, Twisted Automotive
recently announced a jump in overseas demand for its take
on the Land Rover Defender, having received enquiries from
18 countries as fans of the iconic vehicle look to reserve
their piece of history.
The business has built an international reputation for quality
engineering and a creative approach to tailoring each vehicle
to customer needs. It can spend over 300 hours improving
everything from simple bolts, to full engine rebuilds and
luxury interiors.
Talking about the demand, Charles Fawcett, Managing
Director of Twisted said: "Our new range has attracted a
great deal of interest from around the world and our order
book is filling up. This is the largest order we've ever placed
for new Defenders and it will allow us to continue to meet
demand over the coming years. We continue to invest and
grow our export markets, who value our focus on engineering,
luxury, and the pure Britishness of the Defender."
Twisted's main business involves buying new Defenders and
modifying them to individual customers specifications. It
offers a range of four models, provides custom builds, and
also restores and improves customers' existing vehicles.
The company creates around 100 tailored Defenders a
year. Prices range from £40,000 to £180,000 for vehicles
that include a range of performance-enhancing mechanical
upgrades and custom interiors.

Part of the carefully crafted brand development involves
working with sports stars to create targeted promotional
opportunities. Case in point: England international polo
player George Meyrick has become a brand ambassador for
Land Rover Defender specialist, Twisted Automotive. The
27-year-old has featured in the company's marketing, and will
be an ambassador for the brand at tournaments around the
world, which typically run alongside luxurious social events.
Also, British racing star Max Chilton has signed to become
an international brand ambassador while Twisted provided
two vehicles and support team for the European leg of the
Gumball 3000 Rally between Stockholm and Amsterdam.
Business wise, Twisted Automotive has plans to expand
the team from 22 to 27 and to grow its dealer network
around the country. Part of the new management team is
Operations Director Alex Duckett, formerly with property
agents Knight Frank.
