Panasonic AG-HPX250 ultra-mobile HD acquisition
Panasonic has introduced the AG-HPX250, a P2 HD handheld camera recorder with 10-bit, 4:2:2 independent-frame full 1920 x 1080 resolution AVC-Intra recording. “The AVC-Intra codec is highly prized for the stunning, master-quality 10-bit, 4:2:2 sampled, independent frame images it produces,” said Joseph Facchini, VP of Sales and Product Marketing, Panasonic Solutions. “Now for the first time with the HPX250, Panasonic offers an ultra-portable handheld camera with full-resolution, 10-bit, intra-frame recording in a one-piece unit without the need for an add-on recorder. This is an unprecedented level of image quality in a lightweight camera.” Weighing 2.5kg, the HPX250 incorporates high-sensitivity 1/3 type, full-HD 2.2 megapixel 3MOS imagers and a 20-bit Digital Signal Processor for 1920 x 1080 resolution images. In addition to AVC-Intra 100/50 recording, the HPX250 records in DVCPRO HD, as well as standard definition recording in DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV. The HPX250 supports international HD and SD standards, an added benefit to producers with global clients. In AVCIntra 100/50 and DVCPRO HD, it records in 1080 at 59.94i, 29.97p(N), 23.98p(N), 50i and 25p(N) and in 720p at 23.98p(N), 29.97p(N), 59.94p, 50p and 25p(N). In DVCPRO50/25 and DV, it records in 480 at 59.94i, 29.97p, 23.98p, 23.98pA, and in 576 at 50i and 25p. SIS LIVE have announced the launch of Tr-uPod®, its multi-band, fullyautomated tripod antenna system. Tr-uPod® is an exceptionally flexible, compact satellite uplink system featuring an advanced composite antenna design, tool-less assembly with fully automated or simple manual operation. The multi-band antenna is available in 0.75, 1.0, 1.2 and 1.5m versions. All size antennas pack to 2 x IATA carry cases which can be flown as standard airline baggage and easily carried over rough terrain. Tr-uPod® can also be used with SIS LIVE’s award winning control software and interface. The automated operation offers absolute simplicity with maximum operability which allows unskilled operators to utilise and transmit to multiple satellites. SIS LIVE have the best surface accuracy of their segmented parabolic antennas than any other manufacturer and all antenna sizes are capable of X, Ku, Ka, and DBS band with the 1.5m also available in C band.

undercranking / overcranking to create fast or slow-motion effects. Offering a wide 28mm to 588mm (35mm equivalent) 21X HD lens with three independent adjustable rings, the HPX250 covers most shooting situations without the need for a wideangle conversion lens. The 21X lens also features an OIS. The HPX250 offers genlock/timecode input for multi-camera operation, as well as an HD SDI output, an HDMI output, and an IEEE 1394 in/out. The camera recorder is equipped with a Dynamic Range Stretch (DRS) function to help compensate for wide variations in lighting, a waveform monitor and vector scope display, and two focus assist functions – a picture expanding function and a focus bar. Equipped with two P2 card slots, the HPX250 can record for up to 320 minutes in AVC-Intra 100 at 720/24pN, 160 minutes in AVC-Intra 100 at 1080/24pN and 128 minutes in other AVC-Intra 100 or DVCPRO HD formats on two 64GB cards. In AVCIntra 50, the recording time is twice as AVC-Intra 100. The file based P2 HD workflow includes such recording features as instant recording start-up, clip thumbnail view for immediate access to video content on all cards, and a host of time-saving recording modes. An SD memory card slot offers a scene file and user settings store. For easy HD viewing, the camera is equipped with a widescreen 1,226,000-pixels LCOS colour viewfinder and a widescreen 921,000pixels 8.8cm (3.45 inches) LCD colour monitor.

JVC previews new 4K technology
JVC Professional has developed the world’s first large-scale integration (LSI) chip for high-speed processing of high definition (HD) video, which will be an integral part of the next generation of JVC camcorders. The prototype was launched at this year’s NAB show and has been demonstrated live in front of interested crowds at the event. The new LSI enables processing, encoding, and recording of 4K/2K images, which have four times the resolution of full HD. JVC has a few prototypes including two 4K cameras with sample video utilising the new LSI technology featured on the show stand. “JVC continues to be at the forefront of technological innovation in our industry. Our new LSI technology can handle data-intensive acquisition, which opens the door to exciting possibilities for the production community,” Gustav Emrich, European product manager stated. “Over the next few months, JVC is going to invite innovative cinematographers and other production professionals to help us develop 4K cameras, 3D cameras, and other products that deliver outstanding images and improved workflows at an affordable price point.” With advanced image codecs and other technologies assembled in a single chip, the new LSI’s camera signal processing enables real-time RGB debayering of 8.3 megapixel video at 60fps. Plus, the LSI requires 40 percent less power and, compared to previous LSIs, cuts systems costs in half. The result is a high-level processor suited to a wide range of professional products – and with all hardware and software integrated into a single platform, products using the LSI platform can be commercialised quickly.
