Train the Trainer
BECTU's new Train the Trainer course is designed
to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and skills
between workers in the creative industries. BECTU
training officer Kate Elliott said: "Our course is
designed for people who don't necessarily feel

confident in talking about their work to an
audience. It can help you to gain the skills to train
new staff, move your career in new directions or

BECTU's National Executive Committee is supporting the campaign
to shut down MIPIM, the world's
largest property fair which
attracts international investors
into the UK often to buy councilowned land on which to build
luxury housing
This is scandalous at a time of
unprecedented crisis. House
prices are beyond the reach of
millions particularly in London
and the south-east. The
Conservative mayor of London's
supposed policies to ensure that
property developers include
affordable social housing are
conspicuous by their scarcity.
More council-owned estates are
being demolished, while buy-tolet landlords and estate agents

impose sky-high rents, and
5-million people are on council
housing waiting lists.
Many members are badly
affected by the housing crisis
- whether paying a mortgage,
trying to buy, or renting. If you'd
like to tell us how it affects you

issue of the journal will be
running a feature on the
campaign against MIPIM run by
the Radical Housing Network
and proposals for a solution to
the housing crisis based on a
national council house building
programme and improved rights
for tenants. A meeting on this
takes place on 22 November at
11.30am, venue tbc.

Diversity fund

Creative Skillset have launched
a new diversity fund to help
counter the drop in diversity
in the creative industries.
If you live in England, work
in the creative industries and
are female, BAME or have a
disability, you can now apply
for up to £1,200 towards the
cost of training (£1,600 for
people with disabilities).
You will need to pay the
first 20% of your total costs
(covering fees, travel and
childcare), and the remaining
80% will be paid - with
additional help available
towards accommodation
for disabled applicants.
