During his time in office Hurd, 53, oversaw substantial growth in HP’s revenues, a doubling of the company’s stock value (making it the largest IT company in the world by market value), and a number of acquisitions including that of sourcing trailblazer EDS; however, such success was not enough to keep him in his role after reports of allegations of harassment (later disproved) by actress and occasional HP contractor Jodie Fisher led to the discovery of thousands of dollars in apparently improper expenses payments. Hurd’s severance settlement has been rumoured to be worth up to $50 million. Prominent figures in the computing industry have voiced their concerns over the possible impact of the move upon HP . Oracle’s Larry Ellison – a frequent tennis partner of the fallen CEO – said that HP’s board had “just made the worst personnel decision since the idiots on the Apple board fired Steve Jobs many years ago”. Possibly more damaging than even such criticism, HP is now the subject of a derivative lawsuit brought as a result of the approximately $9-billion decline in its market capitalisation in the days following Hurd’s departure. IT IndusTry CommenTarY Deborah Kops, sourcingchange.com “By now the lascivious literati have thoroughly pulled apart the circumstances around the inglorious fall of HP’s Mark Hurd. Whether he sidled up to Ms Fisher, or merely bought her a few high priced drinks, will always be a matter for salacious speculation, but his departure has more implication for the future of the outsourcing industry. Will the next leader decide to aggressively pursue a leadership position, finally realising the value of the EDS acquisition and any synergy with the ink and printer business, or merely follow Hurd’s policy of benign neglect?” Consendre mod eugait alit luptati sisisisit augait num iusti facidunt ipsumsan el eraestrud exerat ad onulla cor ing eumsandre ex elit “When someone gets a job, it better be clear what they did to get it.” – Mark Hurd atetue tet ulla feu feum niamconEm ea commodiam ad tem dolortio Utat lum quisim et, quissi.Volobore m iurero dolobore. 12 ●● www.outsourcemagazine.co.uk http://www.SOURCINGCHANGE.COM http://www.outsourcemagazine.co.uk
