ord na Móna is in an ideal place to
benefit from the recent signing of a
memorandum of understanding (MOU) on
renewable energy between the Irish and
British governments. The MOU was signed
by the Minister for Communications, Energy
and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte TD,
and UK Energy Minister Ed Davey MP. It will
put in place a framework to allow the export
of renewable energy, mainly wind energy,
from Ireland to the UK. This follows on from
the British government’s publication in 2012
of draft energy legislation, which will allow
electricity imports into the UK as part of its
revised energy strategy to 2020.
