In Brief STV accept pay offer
BECTU and NUJ members at STV have unanimously voted to accept the company's pay
offer for 2015. The pay deal averages 2.4% overall; it is tiered in order to bring everyone
closer to the market rates, ranging from those above 110% of the market rate receiving
1% and those at 80-89% receiving 5%. There is also a bonus if the company achieves its
2015 profit target. Next year's union priority will be those receiving 1% this year.

Disability survey

CPBF Media
Manifesto
launches

T

he Disabled Members
Network committee are
asking members to take
part in a confidential
survey they are conducting to find
out how many members may
have a condition that could be
defined as a disability under the
Equality Act 2010. The Act defines
disability as "a physical or mental
impairment which has a substantial
and long term adverse effect on a
person's ability to carry out normal
day to day activities, and has lasted
or is likely to last 12 months or for
the rest of the person's life".
It's hoped that the survey
results will give BECTU a better
picture of the numbers of
members with a disability within
the union, and this in turn will
also help BECTU fight for positive
attitudes towards disability across
the creative industries.
Please help us to help you by
taking part in the survey. The
survey can be done on-line by
going to the BECTU website or
contact Tracey Hunt at BECTU
head office for a survey form.

The 2015 UK General Election
will be "the best chance we have
ever had to produce a
manifesto that has some body
of support behind it," the CPBF's
veteran campaigner Granville
Williams told the launch
meeting of the Media Manifesto
in London on 1 December. "This
is about putting media reform
back on the political agenda".
Williams said the CPBF had
produced Media Manifestos
since 1986. "We used to put
them out just for the sake of
showing what we would like to
see in an ideal world because
we were frozen out by New
Labour. But all that changed in
July 2010 when Murdoch
decided to get the Tories to
help him grab BSkyB. We
successfully campaigned
against it and that's part of what
we want to create in the run-up
to the election."
BECTU official Paul Evans said
he was "calling for a proper free
market in the media. The media
are not a free market now.
Success in the media is about
beating the regulators, not
commercial rivals."
He warned of the effect on
