VariCam 35 and HS shipping
Panasonic's VariCam 35 and VariCam HS are now shipping. Panasonic says:
"The VariCam 35's superb image handling in multiple formats ranging from
pristine 4K RAW to more practical 4K, UHD, 2K, HD and ProRes capture
formats make it an unparalleled tool for high-end filmmaking,
commercials and episodic production as well as live 4K
events. With high-speed 1080p image capture of up to
240fps, the companion 2/3" VariCam HS produces
extraordinary high-definition imagery for the most
demanding documentary, sports or SFX slow-motion
applications."
Both models incorporate an innovative
design whereby the 4K and 2/3" camera
heads are separate from but dockable to the
common, shared recording module, enabling
professionals to switch between s35mm and 2/3"
camera heads to best suit their creative needs.

Seamless switch
Stage Entertainments UK Ltd, the producers behind Made in
Dagenham, called upon Unusual Rigging to help them change
,
from the previous show at the Adelphi Theatre, The Bodyguard,
to Made in Dagenham with the least amount of disruption.
Given the very dissimilar nature of the scenic elements of the two shows,
there was only a certain amount of equipment that could be re-used. The main
scenic elements supplied by Unusual are two curved tracks which had to
counterweight fly in exactly the correct positions both on/off and up/down stage
with lighting flying within their curves. A series of custom made diverts enabled
these one-tonne pieces to fly on the theatre's own counterweight cradles without
the need to install direct-fly winches.

The Rotolight ANOVA Bi Colour V2 and soon
to be released Rotolight NEO on camera
light have both been placed in the top
category of the TLCI scale. Tested by colour
science expert Alan Roberts, developer of
the Television Lighting Consistency Index
(TLCI), the scores were 86 and 85 respectively,
tested at their midpoint (4500K). According
to the TLCI scale, a score of 85 or higher as
achieved by Rotolight is regarded as ideally
suited for professional television/broadcast
use with "errors so small that a colourist
would not consider correcting them".
