Equality is essential in the
workplace. The UK’s
population is diverse with
a mix of ages, races, sexual
orientations and disabilities.
For example, the 2001 Census
showed that 7.9% (4.6
million) of the total
population of the UK are
from ethnic minority groups
and 3.5 million of the UK’s
workforce consider themselves
to have a disability. This
diversity, combined with the
ageing population of the UK,
means that acknowledging –
and, what’s more, appreciating
– difference and equality
in the workplace is becoming
