Creative industries The creative industries are expected to thrive in the East of England, particularly in Hertfordshire, which is forecast for retention and growth in design, film and music. The county is already well known for its links to film in Borehamwood and Watford, but there is a keenness to develop high-value and innovative technology in the area. Hertfordshire’s film heritage is also likely to become a more integral part of the tourism trade in the county in an attempt to attract visitors for leisure as well as becoming a desirable relocation destination for companies. A knowledge economy The high-tech business community across the East of England, consisting focally of electronic engineering, computer software and biotechnology, is of great value to the region. The field provided 51,400 jobs in Cambridgeshire alone in 2008 and the Martlesham Innovation Park, located next to BT’s Adastral Park in Suffolk, is currently searching for high-tech start-ups to continue to grow the ICT cluster. Forecasting for the future, according to “Invest Essex” – Essex County Council’s countywide inward investment programme – the areas that are likely to see growth and have been identified as significant drivers for not only inward investment but also 100,000 jobs across Greater Essex are finance; aerospace; construction; automotive; port and logistics; ICT and advanced electronics and ‘creative’ industries. Currently, there are nearly 20,000 people employed within the financial services sector in Essex spanning across over 1300 businesses. Energy Norfolk and Suffolk are counties keen to establish themselves as a thriving business community and are focussed on becoming greener in order to achieve sustainable economic growth.
