WWF Annual Review 2023 - 58

WWF is an independent conservation organization,
with over 38 million followers and a global network
active through local leadership in over 100 countries.
Our mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's
natural environment and to build a future in which people
live in harmony with nature, by conserving the world's
biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable
natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the
reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.

Like many other richly diverse
habitats, some areas in the coastal
zone of Madagascar's Toliara region
have been degraded by human
activities. WWF risk-assessment tools
are now available to help reduce the
impact of the business and finance
sectors on the natural world.

2023 saw the launch of WWF's
Biodiversity Risk Filter, an online tool that
enables companies and financial institutions
to find out their impacts on nature and how
much they depend on it, as well as helping them
to tackle nature-related risks to their operations,
value chains and investments. This builds on the
long-standing success of the Water Risk Filter,
which already supports companies in identifying
water-related risks in their operations. The
landmark figure of one million sites assessed
using the two risk filters was also reached in 2023.
