OUTREACH ASSISTANT,
AFRICA PROGRAMME
"I'm the communications lead for
the Africa Programme. My job is
to ensure that the important work
of our researchers is seen by as
many people as possible through
social media, traditional media and
stakeholder engagement. I also
coordinate the team's parliamentary
engagement in the UK. Beyond the
UK, we aim to influence as many
decision-makers as possible and

"I manage the operational side of
the team, which includes events,
publications and finances. Fundraising
is also an essential part of the role -
writing grant applications and working
with colleagues to develop proposals. I
work very closely with our researchers
to unpack their ideas and help to
realise the potential of their projects.

"A recent highlight was helping
to organise a conference in Ethiopia
on Africa's role in international
affairs. And last year we were also
lucky to host Prince Harry speaking
about landmines in Angola. We
brought together a range of
stakeholders who pledged money
and resources to address the issue.
"Helping colleagues to understand
the value of communication is part
of my job. There are really cool ideas
here, we just need to make sure
everyone knows about them!"

"One of the new skills I've developed
at Chatham House is managing teams.
Being a manager means I need to
be available to support people and
pitch in to help where needed.
"I am really proud of the work we do
because it's about raising the voices of
people from the Middle East and North
Africa region. We are very collaborative
- all our projects involve working with
a network of people from the country,
either other researchers or those in
business, politics or civil society."

PROJECT MANAGER,
ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND
RESOURCES PROGRAMME
"I started in public relations, then
spent two years working in Latin
America, which helped focus
my interest in energy and the
environment. I joined Chatham
House two years ago because
I was interested in working for
a research organisation that
focused on these issues.
"When I first started, my role was
focused on coordinating logistics,
budgets and contracts. After a while
I developed an interest in the circular
economy - a new model based on
re-using more and wasting less to
reduce our environmental impact.
I'm now working on our circular
economy project, which means
keeping the project on track so we
deliver on time and within budget.
"My favourite aspect of working
here is constantly learning on the
job. I also get to see first hand how
our research influences policymakers
- for example, directly advising
governments on technologies
available to tackle climate change."
