A NEW GENERATION OF ENGINEERS TO GROW THE REGIONAL ECONOMY FOUNDING CHEMICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS Canterbury Christ Church University celebrates a successful first year of engineering Canterbury Christ Church University is shaping the future of science and engineering in the South East with its bold and ambitious programme of courses and industry engagement. Inspiring a new and diverse generation of engineers to design ground-breaking solutions to real-world challenges, the University is breaking away from the traditional education model by nurturing creativity and a talent for problem-solving. Its approach, supported by £13m funding from the South East Local Enterprise Partnership and former Higher Education Funding Council for England, will be critical in helping to narrow the national gender and participation gap in Engineering and Technology education and careers. The University launched the first of its major new portfolio areas in September 2018, with Chemical Engineering students studying a dynamic and industry-informed course, co-designed with local and global companies from pharmaceuticals to chemical industry automation sectors. "The course is amazing. The lecturers are brilliant and so helpful. I look forward to progressing through my course and moving onto a career in industries where my skills and degree can be applied." Mike Holmes, Christ Church Chemical Engineering student, Foundation Year It also signals a major success in the University's ongoing drive for inclusion and diversity in engineering, with its Chemical Engineering course made up of 50% women, 50% BAME and 30% mature students.
