Business Bord na Móna retail Our Consumer, Distribution and Supply Chain business units are now operating as a single business unit, Bord na Móna Retail. This is the latest development in our Strategy for Growth process, which is a critical for developing the company’s market position in the UK, Ireland and Europe. round-up NEwS aND DEvElOpMENTS fROM aCROSS ThE COMpaNy AnuA uS mAkeS progreSS Market conditions continue to be difficult in the US housing sector with the fewest number of new home building permits since records began. anua US has diversified through the introduction of the platinum wastewater product allowing entry into a larger sector of the market. Regulatory approvals have been secured in key states allowing the first US systems to be installed. anua continues to make progress in establishing a presence in the municipal and commercial markets having introduced a significantly broadened range of products and has established relationships with new channel partners giving the business coverage across the US. access into these new markets takes time due to the long sales cycles - often in excess of two years - and the need to establish an installed base of projects with performance data for conservative clients in a very fragmented market. Warm response to Fuels campaign During the winter season marketing ran a successful campaign to rekindle awareness of peat briquettes and re-position peat briquettes as a main fuel. The peat briquettes campaign centred on the idea that the best and most meaningful family interactions happen by the fire. It’s where stories are told, relationships deepen, and quality time is shared. This concept was promoted through an integrated campaign including Tv, radio, social media, online and outdoor advertising. Three progressive new ads served a targeted Tv campaign. These ads generated a significant response, with conversation on websites, social media platforms, and a slot on a panel show on RTÉ2. a member of the public shared one ad on youTube, where it received 30,000 views. Supply Chain will work closely with Distribution and Consumer in meeting and exceeding their customer needs through supply and logistics. The three units have combined to construct a very challenging budget for the financial year 2013 in line with the ambitious growth targets devised under Strategy for Growth. The teams are working together to deliver solutions that will support this. Milled peat sales up Sales of milled peat continued to run ahead of budget (102%) at end-2011, early-2012. Sales to ESB power stations ran at 105% of target while sales to Edenderry power Station are on target. peat moistures to Edenderry power station are at an average of 54% although we are focusing efforts to manage delivery of high moisture peat as part of stock rotation policy. Our inability to polycover the planned peat stocks after last year’s harvest has led to substantial rewetting of certain peat stocks. This will lead to some quality issues over the next few months. ChipS for eDenDerry power StAtion During the latter half of 2011, forestry thinnings in log form were purchased by feedstock and stored in an open area at Derrygreenagh to maximise their drying rate. These were chipped by end-March and delivered to the power plant. from the energy content of the delivered chips, the increased value of the logs through natural drying will be established and hence an optimum value and price payable for ‘wet logs’ can be ascertained. AES now serving Wexford with the acquisition of wexford County Council’s residential customers in february, aES is now winning customers right across Ireland. we now serve over 95,000 customers, well on our way to the 100,000 strategic target for the business, originally planned for end-2013. The transition of the wexford business was completed in a rapid timescale. a Business Transfer agreement was signed with wexford County Council just before Christmas. In January, 16 new staff were interviewed, recruited and trained, a fleet of vehicles was sourced and put in place, the customer data was securely transferred, new pricing was agreed, customer service teams were trained and invoices were prepared and posted. This project relied on the close support of legal, finance, Marketing, IT, hR and the aES customer care centre in Newbridge, led by Terrie McCann and Julie Kenny. 4 | Source Spring 2012
