We are exploring a process where the preferred partner will offer a home energy assessment service in your home, giving you a list of what could be done to improve energy efficiency, (for example, insulation, boiler upgrade or heating controls upgrade), with an estimate of the cost. ord na Móna has set up the ‘energy savers Working group’ and we are actively counting kilowatt hours of energy consumed and importantly, energy saved – with our main focus on internal energy-saving opportunities within Bord na Móna’s own operations. (the external partnerships are managed by Energy Performance contracting, which is part of powergen). It’s a considerable task the company is undertaking and it is driven by the need to comply with the european Directive on energy end-use efficiency and Energy Services Regulations 2009, while also delivering all important cost savings. So, as an energy supplier, Bord na Móna must develop an amount of energy savings in the marketplace. This
is the Better Energy programme, where the required level of savings relates to the amount of peat briquettes and coal Bord na Móna sells. These energy savings, 20 million kilowatt hours by 2013, must be measured and verified before the company can achieve energy credits from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. the energy savers Working group’s plan first task is to get a complete picture of energy usage across the company, unit by unit, so that we understand how we consume energy and can identify projects that will save energy. projects are already underway that will achieve energy credits.
