MAJOR NEW BAHRAIN
CONTRACT FOR ESB
INTERNATIONAL
ESB INTERNATIONAL has received
the Letter Of Award for a significant
new contract from Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) of Bahrain. The
letter was presented during a visit to
Bahrain in December 2014 by ESB
Chief Executive, Pat O'Doherty, and
ESB International Managing Director, Ollie Brogan.
The new contract is for owner's
engineer consultancy services on
the first phase of EWA's latest large
transmission development. This
latest transmission development
is known as '12-16' with a capital
budget of €720 million. ESB International's contract for consultancy
services for phase one is valued at
approximately €4.5 million.
This contract was won in the face
of strong competition and is a clear
indication of the high regard that
EWA has for the high quality services which ESB International has been
delivering to them for almost forty
years. We are regarded by EWA as a
"trusted partner".
Under this new contract ESB International will provide a wide range
of owner's engineer consultancy services for the development of eight
220/66/11kV substations, thirty-one
66/11kV substations and associated
220kV and 66kV cable works. ESB
International's project team for delivering the project will be split between
our offices in Ireland and in Bahrain.
The project team is headed by
Mark Halpin. Dr. Ray O'Gorman and
his design team are drawing upon a
wide pool of internal experts in the
fields of power system modelling,
HV cables, HV switchgear, protection and control, civil works, power
transformers, SCADA and telecommunications.
The site team is headed by Brendan
Stafford who is supported by a large
group of experienced professionals.
All activities on site come under the
watchful eye of Tom Ralph, our Resident Country Manager.
EWA has embarked on a series of
large transmission developments to
meet their average annual demand
growth of 7%. The electricity transmission systems in Bahrain currently
transfers 3,500MW of power from
the generating stations to the consumers through thirty 220kV substations, one hundred and forty 66kV
substations, 450km of 220kV cable
circuits and 1,100km of 66kV cable
circuits. Over 33% of the current network has been established within the
past 15 years under the supervision
of ESB International. n

IN 1975 ESB set up an international
arm of the business which we now
know as ESB International. The overall remit of this business was to commercialise the vast experience that had
been developed in ESB and sell this
experience to clients across the globe.
A secondary remit for the company
was to gain experience in international markets and apply this experience
back home. Over the past 40 years we
have seen ESB International work in
120 countries, developing best practice standards in engineering and win
awards for customer excellence.
Over the coming year we will be
hosting events in our international
markets and at home to celebrate our
40 years in international business.
These events will celebrate the efforts
of our staff in building ESB International's business in Ireland and across
the globe and engage us with our customers and other stakeholders in markets in Ireland and internationally.
In Quarter 1 of 2015 we kicked off
the 40th activity with a CSR art competition and a reflection for our retired
colleagues, who over the course of the
past 40 years played a role in building
the company which is now known as
ESB International.

Free Parking and Charging in Q-Park
Sites in Cork City
There is an extra benefit for electric vehicle drivers shopping in Cork City Centre
with free parking and charging in Q-Park
sites. ESB has supplied and installed eight
publicly-accessible electric vehicle charge
points at four Q-Park sites in Cork City.
Two charging facilities are now available
at each Q-Park in the city and will incorporate free designated parking for up to
four hours, enabling drivers to recharge
their EV.
