ELECTRIC IRELAND'S Powering Kindness Week is a simple initiative designed to encourage people to do an act of kindness and bank it in favour of one of three amazing Irish charities. From November 2nd to 8th last, the campaign captured the imagination of people around Ireland and saw Childline winning the top prize of €60,000 for banking the most deeds in their name. Childline managed to galvanise the public to do good deeds through their amazing passion and commitment, their strong network of supporters and the real life stories their volunteers shared. Special Olympics Ireland and Breakthrough Cancer Research won €40,000 and €30,000 respectively.

During Powering Kindness Week, in excess of 45,000 deeds were logged at www.poweringkindness.ie through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and via text message. Countless cups of tea were made, gardens watered, lifts given, bags of shopping carried as well as some more unusual good deeds such as a student promising his mother he would study for the Leaving Certificate or the ten students from Loreto Secondary School in Fermoy who visited Strawhall Nursing Home in the town. The residents were very happy to see them and now they plan on returning every Wednesday for the next two months.

MINISTER OF STATE for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD, turned on the special Christmas light display sponsored by ESB at Merrion Square Park (east side entrance) just before Christmas. This is an initiative of the Merrion Square Innovation Network which was established by Failte Ireland amongst others to promote Merrion Square as a unique and vibrant cultural destination and tourist attraction for local and international culture seekers. Last year 37 business and stakeholders came together to unlock the potential of the Square with a number of successful events - Christmas Carols by Candlelight carol service which was held in the Pepper Canister Church.

Minister Ring praised all those involved in rejuvenating and building awareness of Merrion Square as a significant landmark in the city and said: “This is a special part of Dublin with an important Georgian heritage, which has too often been overlooked by tourists and even by Dubliners. Thanks to an ongoing campaign and events like this we are hoping to change that. Since the initiative was launched last year, many of the Georgian buildings in the Square have now opened their doors to the public for the first time.”

Electric Ireland wins sponsorship award

ELECTRIC IRELAND won the ‘Best in Europe’ Sponsorship Award at the prestigious 2013 European Sponsorship Awards which took place in London on 29th January 2014. Electric Ireland received the award for its sponsorship of Team Ireland for the London Olympics 2012.

Electric Ireland scooped the award for excellence in sponsorship for its outstanding campaign to promote Team Ireland, beating stiff competition from the national sponsorship winners in the UK, Germany, France, Sweden and Slovenia. The award was for best sponsorship in Europe across all categories Sports, Music, Arts and Charity.

The European Sponsorship Association's annual awards received entries from 11 countries which were assessed by an independent panel of expert judges across the continent.

ESA Judges commented that Electric Ireland's campaign was an outstanding example of best in class sponsorship. They were particularly impressed by how the sponsorship strategy supported the introduction of a new brand and specific business challenges while also profiling the talent and determination of Irish athletes in their quest for Olympic glory in a way that made the campaign memorable, interesting and relevant.

The Awards Ceremony took place at the stunning Plaisterers’ Hall and was hosted by Steve Parry, UK Radio/TV presenter and former Olympic swimmer. Last night's Ceremony attracted a record number of marketing and sponsorship professionals from leading brands and rights holders across Europe.
