In recent years, we have invested heavily in upgrading and enhancing the Irish electricity network, to deliver a smarter, more efficient and reliable system that is suitable for the needs of today's economy. Over the same period, we increased customer satisfaction levels from 69 per cent to 84 per cent.

“We intend to build on these achievements over the next three years to ensure that we continue to deliver outstanding service to our customers.

Over the period of the new plan, ESB Networks will enhance its web and social media services, including its popular PowerCheck App launched last year, which provides real-time information to customers in the event of a power cut. It will also continue to roll-out smart network technologies to increase the efficiency, reliability and functionality of the Irish electricity grid.

Record crowds visit ESB Networks at 2013 Ploughing Championships

THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE attending this year's National Ploughing Championships broke all previous records. A huge attendance of 228,000 people visited over the three days of the event, which was opened by President Michael D. Higgins, in Ratheniska near Stradbally, Co. Laois, on Tuesday, September 24th. There was an increase of 43,000 over last year's attendance. A total of more than 1,300 exhibitors had display stands at the 800-acre site and the weather was generally kind to the huge attendance. remaining very warm over the three days with only occasional showers. A large number of Government ministers and politicians attended and An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, was the guest of honour on the third and final day.

ESB Networks’ stand underwent a very impressive make-over this year reflecting the refreshed ESB branding and the themes of the new Customer Service Improvement Plan (2013-'16) - For the Customer, for the Economy, for the Future. The commitment required when ‘going for gold’ was then reinforced in an excellent contribution from our esteemed Networks’ colleague Mark Rohan, double Paralympic Gold medallist.

In addition to promoting Networks’ Public Safety and Customer related services, there was a strong emphasis on showing our innovation and technical expertise to the public who visited the stand. A central focal point was an information display unit which provided an excellent visual introduction for visitors to our Smart Networks initiatives. Innovative technologies on display which attracted huge attention included augmented reality for 3-D imaging, and an interactive model showing how customers and ESB Networks need to work together to achieve the integration of renewables into the grid system. Visitors were also fascinated by two drones which were on display in the marquee - these provide a future option for carrying out overhead inspections of lines.

Date for your 2014 diary: The National Ploughing Association has already confirmed that next year's event will again take place in Ratheniska in late September.

Our outdoor display area was always busy with visitors taking great interest on the electric vehicles on display, as well as a brand new Nissan Leaf provided by ecars. A big attraction was the live exhibition of pole work by a three-person NT crew each day at 10am, 12 noon and 2.30pm. The highlight of each display involved going through the full procedure for carrying out a pole top rescue of a stranded colleague.

A big thank you to all the Networks staff who worked tirelessly each day at the event to make our presence at the event a really big success which projected a very positive public image of our business.
