Editor's desk

Hello and welcome to the October/November issue of EM.

We are delighted to congratulate ElectricAid on their success at the Chambers Ireland CSR Awards. Their project on Sustainable Stoves has made a huge difference to the people of Eritrea in the Horn of Africa. The area is a very hot and dry country and when I first saw one of these stoves, on display last year as part of ElectricAid's 25th anniversary, I was very impressed at how something, in a way so simple, could have made such a huge difference. It is great to see ElectricAid celebrated for the hard work which for many of us goes along quietly behind the scenes. Congratulations to James Foley and his voluntary team who give so much to the management of the charity.

Currently, as we collate this issue of EM, many of us are taking part in the Pedometer Challenge. This is a great boost to getting into a keep-fit regime by just walking. You would be surprised how many steps you clock up on days when you think you haven't really done much. Just going about your normal activities can see the numbers rising sizeably and it gives you a great impetus to really get out there and do more. So if you haven't taken part for this challenge - get yourself a pedometer or the App and don't let the oncoming winter blues stop you - start walking!

Kind regards,

AROUND 130,000 PEOPLE are believed to have gathered to watch the IAA FlightFest on Sunday September 15th. While aircraft representing almost every decade since 1930 took the skies, the world's largest commercial aircraft, the British Airways A380, generated much excitement.

Almost 30 planes flew as low as 800 feet over the Liffey. Participants - Aer Lingus, Aer Lingus Regional, Ryanair, Cityjet, British Airways, FlyBe, Etihad, Air Contractors, Transaero, Irish Air Corps, Royal Air Force and the Irish Coast Guard - all gave an amazing display. Due to the inclement weather, however, some planes had to pull out of the event.

Retired ESB Networks colleague, Michael Hughes, captured some great images and sent them to EM, including some views captured near our Poolbeg station.
