» The Business Service Centre is currently hosting visits to the ESB Data Centres. The Data Centres are dedicated secure buildings host Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure, which supports ESB business. This is the hardware, software and storage equipment that runs ESB's IT systems and stores all ESB's business and market data. ESB has two Data Centres - one in Citywest, Dublin 24, and the other in Blanchardstown.

THE BUSINESS BENEFITS delivered include guaranteed 24x7x365 support and security for ESB's business systems. The design has implemented high-speed fibre optic links between the two Data Centres using ESB Telecoms transmission infrastructure. This design ensures that real-time replication between Data Centres, for specific business applications, delivers multiple up-to-date copies of critical business data. A controlled failover of critical systems from one Data Centre to another delivers business continuity.

The visit provided an overview of ESB's technical IT footprint, i.e. the servers, hardware, software and storage, of the Data Centre. It also outlined the ESB technical controls and IT risk management in place to provide business continuity. There are over 1600 servers, 700 databases and 1,200 terabytes of storage data on site. In addition a customer specific presentation outlining future IT plans including the IT strategy, desktop, mobile and collaboration strategies and upgrade footprint was presented to the group.

There are further Data Centre visits planned for business customers over the coming weeks. Should you wish to visit a Data Centre, or require a copy of the presentation, please contact your IT Business Relationship Manager.

DELIVERING HIGH PERFORMANCE WITH AN ENGAGED AND AGILE WORKFORCE

» An integral part of ESB's corporate strategy is having an engaged and agile workforce, delivering high performance to enable the business to compete and grow successfully.

GOOD HEALTH and wellbeing among staff across the organisation is a key ingredient in achieving the engagement of people and delivering high performance across teams. This can impact on an individual's ability to carry out their role and impacts on the overall performance of the organisation.

The objective of the Your Health and Wellbeing Programme is to provide supports to staff in these challenging times and to support them in maintaining good health and wellbeing to ensure they are able to perform their duties and have healthy lives.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING WORKSHOP

A health and wellbeing planning workshop was arranged. The objective of this workshop was to identify key health and wellbeing initiatives for 2013. Staff and managers from each business unit were invited to attend.

The outputs from the workshop are outlined, as illustrated in fig. 1.

This framework captures the essence of organisational challenges impacting the individual at the moment. At the heart of the framework are the individual and their Line Manager. Set around this are the organisational challenges on the right-hand side and the impact on the individual on the left-hand side.

YOUR HEALTH AND WELLBEING PLAN

We took the ‘Wheel of Life’ as a starting point for our campaign. The main sections within this wheel are the main themes of Your Health and Wellbeing Programme. In order to create a better understanding of the messages we have created five icons that represent the different aspects of the programme. Each icon is coupled with a colour that will help staff navigate the variety of communications that will exist under Your Health and Wellbeing Programme. The main themes are mental health, physical heath and finance.

Communications will be provided on a monthly basis with different themes spread throughout the year. This will include a key-note, relevant information, associated links to useful websites and five to ten-minute DVD on the topic. We aim to use as many platforms as possible to provide the information such as intranet, Share-Point, electric mail and email.

It is intended to run a series of Health and Wellbeing Seminars, which will offer tips and advice for staff on mental health and finance. Each session will last approximately 1.5 hours.

Full details of these seminars will be circulated to staff in due course.

PERSONAL RESILIENCE FRAMEWORK-THE WHEEL OF LIFE

The purpose of this framework is to anchor the health and wellbeing initiatives run within the organisation so they are meaningful and relevant to the individual/team/business area.

Suggested initiatives/activities that give meaning to this framework include:

• A menu of initiatives available to support each stage of the Personal Resilience wheel.

• Development of a Health and Well- being Portal as a communication channel and means of access for staff that don't have direct access to PC.
