ESB INTERNATIONAL SECURES €30M CONTRACT IN TURKEY

ESBI

ESB INTERNATIONAL has successfully signed a €30 million, six-year partnership with Unit International to jointly operate and maintain the Yeni Electrik power station in Turkey. This announcement marks ESB International’s first venture in Turkey’s growing economy.

The 50-50 joint venture deal was announced on Wednesday April 10th at a ceremony in the Ciragan Palace Kempinsk, Istanbul, and was attended by Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Eamon Gilmore, TD, who was leading a trade mission to the country. ESB International’s operations under this contract will help Turkey to meet its quickly increasing energy demands. “The operation and maintenance of the Yeni Elektrik power station, north of Istanbul, is a large milestone in the development of ESB International in Turkey,” said ESB Head of Innovation John McSweeney. “This is our first project in Turkey and we are hoping to develop new opportunities here in the future with our partners,” he added.

Turkey’s rapidly expanding market is projected to see growth in energy demands by about 6% per year over the coming period, creating considerable opportunity for those involved in the energy sector. The government has ambitious plans to dramatically increase renewable energy production, financed by private investment, as well as to invest in a large number of conventional power plants. ESB International’s participation in this market will cement the company’s position as a major player on the global stage and assist in positioning the company as one of Europe’s most progressive electricity consultancy firms.
