Finance Transformation Programme (FiTP) update

Five men and two women stand side by side for an indoor group shot.
FiTP IT team members (l-r): Reneeth Eipe, Copperman Consulting; Mark Nowell, SAP Basis, BSC; Cormac Scully, SAP Competency Centre, BSC; John Goodman, Business Intelligence Competency Centre, BSC; Tanya Bayer, SAP Competency Centre, BSC; Colin Cummins, SAP Security, BSC; Bernie Brennan, FiTP; and Jim Boyle, SAP Competency Centre, BSC.

TECHNOLOGY - A KEY ENABLER FOR FINANCE

AT THE BEGINNING of the Finance Transformation Programme, technology was identified as a key enabler for making changes to the way Finance operates. Without the appropriate new technology or system improvements, Finance would not be able to deliver on its strategic objective of providing its services more efficiently and effectively.

IMPROVEMENTSTO EXISTING SYSTEMS

Last month, the fifth and final set of system improvements were made to Finance's existing SAP system under the direction of the programme.

Since the first set of system enhancements in April 2012, there have been a total of 48 change requests implemented. The majority of the changes increase the efficiency and accuracy of certain finance processes, while in some cases they have contributed to reducing time-consuming manual intervention.

ENHANCED COMPLIANCE

The programme also implemented a new Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) module in SAP to enhance existing governance measures. The module enables automated access controls to SAP to be put in place and has initially been used for segregation of duties for Finance staff involved in the invoicing and the accounting and reporting processes.

BUSINESS INTELLIGENCETOOLS

Probably thebiggest technology changes will be in the area of performance management-boththeplanning/budgetingandforecasting/ reporting processes. FiTP is introducing two business intelligence tools to support these areas, both of which will be fully operational in early July.

SAP BPC is being implemented to support Finance's new approach to planning, budgeting and forecasting and will be introduced in line with the start of planning cycle for the 2014 financial year. SAP Business Objects is the new reporting platform to be used by Executive Directors with senior management in each of the business units to analyse a mix of financial andnon-financial targets (or key performance indicators, ‘KPIs'). These targets, which are categorised as Financial, Operational, People and Customer and Market, are all aligned to the corporate strategy.

SUCCESSFUL DELIVERY

“Each of these new systems and system enhancements are huge undertakings in their own right, so successful delivery of each of these components is a tribute to hard work on the part of all those involved from initial specification, right through to testing and release,” said John Forde, Technology Manager, HTR

MP'S VISIT TO CARRINGTON

ELECTRICAID AGM

ELECTRICAID'S 2012 AGM was held in Wilton on April 23rd last with a simultaneous audio/video link to ESB Head Office. The technology worked superbly, allowing both groups to fully participate. Many thanks to Telecoms staff both in Wilton and Head Office and local ElectricAid advocate Dave Carey who was a great host in Wilton. 2012 was a tough year for ElectricAid, when four years of recession finally began to catch up with us. We have lost some membership and income, but were still able to spend €1.3 million on 180 separate development projects, in Ireland and overseas. This sort of impact from a company-based charity makes ElectricAid a world-leader, and should be a real source of pride for the entire ESB community.

We also experienced 2012 as a year of celebration, where 25 years of successful service was marked from the RHA Gallery to the Button Factory to St Stephen's Church (Pepper Canister) with our implementing partners, President Michael D. Higgins, and with our friends and supporters. A new committee has now been elected, dedicated to begin the next 25 years of success.

Thanks were expressed to ESB, EirGrid, support services, our NGO partners - and most of all, to the 2,600 contributing members - these people are ElectricAid, and we thank them sincerely.

Full draft minutes of the AGM are available on the ElectricAid intranet site.
