ELECTRIC IRELAND SPONSORS INFLUENTIAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY EVENT
ELECTRIC IRELAND welcomed representatives from more than 100 of Ireland's largest energy users to Powerscourt House in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, for a briefing on the latest financial and technological developments in energy efficiency. Hosted by Crowley Carbon, an Irish-based energy services company, and sponsored by Electric Ireland, the event delivered an up-to-date overview of the latest developments in the sector, including the latest energy efficiency services on offer for commercial and industrial customers from Electric Ireland's Energy Services team.
The conference highlighted the rationale for carrying out energy efficiency projects in commercial and industrial businesses. This sector has delivered significant energy savings through initiatives such as SEAI's Better Energy Workplace scheme, which Irish businesses have used to achieve more than 250GWh of additional energy savings each year for the past two years.
Minister for Communications, Energy & natural resources, Pat rabbitte Td, opened the event and discussed the imperative for energy-efficiency savings in Ireland. He provided a timely update of the Government's new national energy efficiency action plan, which was launched the previous day.
The keynote speaker was climate expert and investor George Polk, who highlighted the rationale for investing in energy efficiency projects and how energy efficiency provides attractive returns for investments resulting in substantial fund investment.

Peter Boyd, the Expert Chair of the UK Government's Energy Efficiency deployment Office, spoke about energy efficiency initiatives in the UK and provided an insight into what initiatives are working and not working in Ireland's largest export market.
Dawn Meats Environmental Manager Charlie Coakley, outlined his firm's reduction in energy consumption, which gave an insight into the practicalities of delivering energy efficiency projects in an industrial setting.
The dawn Meats project was delivered by Crowley Carbon, who have delivered a number of such projects for commercial and industrial customers in Ireland, the UK and further afield. Company Chairman norman Crowley spoke about financing options and technology developments.
Majella Kelleher of the SEAI provided an update on the national Energy Efficiency Fund. The fund is being established to help energy services companies deliver projects via an energy performance contract model.
The afternoon session focused on technology solutions. Professor Dan Wright of Heliex Power, a company funded by ESB Novus Modus provided details of the company's patented screw expander technology, which converts waste steam to electricity.
Electric Ireland Head of Business and Services development, Tom Bambury, explained how Ireland's leading energy supplier can help customers implement energy-efficiency initiatives and how the new demand side units (DSUS) being developed can pay customers to pro-actively manage their energy use patterns. Electric Ireland is expanding the current range of energy services for commercial and industrial customers.
ESB Archive & Heritage hosts Awards Ceremony for Industrial Heritage Association of Ireland
THE INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE association of Ireland held its annual awards evening for 2012 in ESB Head Office on Wednesday February 13th.
For all the organisations and the people involved, the most important thing is that their efforts are acknowledged.
Welcoming those present, IHAI President Brendan delany explained the association's aims which seek to increase the public's awareness and understanding of our industrial past. This is done for the most part through the network of its members, who offer advice to individuals, groups and organisations about industrial heritage sites and about issues of conservation and restoration. The IHAI's long-term mission said Brendan, is to extend and improve the level of assistance to its members and the public, helping them to find effective ways to contribute to the preservation and conservation of our industrial heritage.
BSC & Electric Ireland Executive director Brid Horan, speaking on behalf of ESB who sponsored the awards, said, “ESB is delighted to support the important work that is being done by the IHAI in creating an awareness, on an all-Ireland basis, of our rich, shared and diverse industrial heritage. Maintaining the knowledge and awareness of our industrial heritage is a key ingredient in safeguarding the physical and intellectual history for future generations. The IHaI has to be commended on the work it does, engaging with the wider community, largely on a voluntary basis, in the spirit of service. That is why ESB is proud to be associated with your organisation and that is why we are delighted to be hosting this event.”
The lord Mayor of Dublin, Naoise Ó Muirí, who was guest of honour, said it was a real pleasure to be invited to the occasion. “I came because, as lord Mayor of dublin, I wish to commend the IHAI, an all-Ireland body, for the work you are undertaking in promoting and safeguarding industrial heritage. I know that this is a special day in the calendar of IHAI, but it is also a very special day for all the award winners: representatives from The national Maritime Museum, those associated with the exhibition of rank's Flour Mill in the Hunt Museum in limerick, Michael Starrett and The Heritage Council for their leadership role in promoting Industrial Heritage and to Dr Fred Hamond who is being recognised with a lifetime achievement award.

MASTERS FOR LEON BRINKLEY
Leon Brinkley, of ITS, was recently ,awarded ,a Masters in Project & Management. Through the I Centre for Project Management University of limerick and a two-year part-time course. The title of Leon's completion paper was Team Composition, leadership, Communication and Trust on IT Projects. Leon is the Manager of Enterprise Projects and is currently assigned to the delivery of the Finance Transformation Programme.
