ESBI MAKES WAVES AT RENEWABLEUK WAVE & TIDAL CONFERENCE
ESBI
ESB International was well represented at the renewableuK Wave and tidal conference in london on the 27th, 28th February with two speaker slots and an exhibition stand. This event provided ESBI with a platform to communicate its project activity and potential services to the ocean energy sector. We are positioning ourselves as one of the leading utilities in the wave and tidal sector worldwide demonstrated through our leading role in the WestWave project in Ireland and other initiatives. Now that significant early stage project activity is imminent in the UK wave and tidal sector, there are significant opportunities for ESB International to apply its experience in a growing sector.
Brendan Barry, Manager Ocean Energy, ESB, was invited to speak at the Strategic Initiative for Ocean Energy workshop about the West-Wave project and ESB's role in the sector. In addition, John Fitzgerald, Ocean Energy technology Manager, ESB spoke about cost and performance requirements for ocean energy. With 550 delegates and 50 exhibitors, there was a great opportunity to engage with the ocean energy industry and raise the profile of ESB and ESBI.
The members of the ESB Ocean Energy team and ESBI received some distinguished visitors to the stand over the course of the two days including Fergus Ewing, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism, Scottish Parliament and also Tom Greatrex, Shadow Minister for Energy, British Parliament. ECAR TEST DRIVES FOR DIGITAL DUBLIN DAY
AS PART OF Digital Dublin Day, ESB ecars ran a successful electric vehicle (EV) test-drive event for 24 selected members of the public at the Mansion House. The test-drives, launched by the lord Mayor of Dublin, Naoise Ó Muirí, provided members of the public with an opportunity to experience electric motoring around Dublin city.
The event was part of preparations for a Digital Masterplan for Dublin.
Test-drive participants signed up via ESB ecars’ Facebook page prior to the event and registered at the ecars stand at the Mansion House. From here they were shown to their EV and introduced to their test-drive instructor. Each instructor ran through some basic training information with the participants before setting off on a pre-planned route through the city's streets. The EVs available for the test-drive were two 100% electric Nissan leafs, a renault Fluence ZE and a renault twizy, supplied by renault Ireland.
The test drives were part of Digital Dublin Day, an event planned by Dublin City Council (DCC) to demonstrate the impact of technology on our lives and to encourage the use of digital technology to all ages. The day is part of a series of activities planned by DCC as part of a roadmap to a Digital Dublin, which will lead to the publishing of the first Digital Masterplan for Dublin City.
