80 NEW JOBS SUPPORTING GROWTH PLANS

ESB INTERNATIONAL ATTENDS CAREER ZOO 2013

ESBI

» ESB International plans to recruit 80 new engineering and technical professional personnel over the next 5 years in response to a growing demand for engineering services from the International energy sector.

IN SUPPORT OF our ongoing international growth initiatives, ESBI took part in Career Zoo 2013, held on the 9th February at the Convention Centre in Dublin. As a result of our attendance at this event, and advertisements placed in the national papers, 1,310 applications were received.

The ESBI exhibit was voluntarily supported by staff

Career Zoo was established as Ireland's largest career event for professionals and graduates who are seeking new career opportunities in Ireland. 8,700 people attended the convention to gain further information on the current jobs market and to speak directly to recruiters and companies with open positions. ESBI shared the floor at Career Zoo with other leading employers like accenture, PayPal and AOL.

ESBI's exhibit was voluntarily supported by staff from their own business areas together with staff from ESB ecars, who adeptly fielded questions and advised prospective employees on what ESBI is all about. An ESB ecar was on display, attracting much interest from those who attended and we were overwhelmed by the positive interest and response that ESBI generated.

Ollie Brogan, Managing Director ESBI, gave a key-note address titled ‘ESB International on the World Stage'. He outlined ESBI's projects both at home and abroad and the core roles played by ESBI Engineers in developing and executing these undertakings. The presentation attracted a lot of interest from the attendees at Career Zoo and follow up queries subsequently at the stand.

The company greatly appreciates all the ESBI and ESB ecars staff, who so graciously volunteered their time to represent ESBI at this year's event and we would like to thank all those who contributed their time and energy.

Jack and Jill Big Egg Hunt 2013 gets ESB ecars support

The Big Egg Hunt, launched on Tuesday February 12th, ran for over a month. During this time 100 giant fibre-glass eggs, designed and painted by some of Ireland's leading artists and celebrities, were displayed in key locations all around Dublin.

ESB ecars’ egg was painted by Irish artist Sharon McDaid, who has exhibited her work in Ireland and the UK. The ecars egg features an electric car charging up, a country and forest scene, as well as a night-time city scene.

An eye-spy book was published containing pictures of the eggs as well as clues and maps to find them. Hunters were tasked with finding 20 eggs for the chance to win a number of prizes, making this one of Ireland's biggest and most interactive public art displays. At the end of the hunt, the eggs were brought to one central location in Dublin and exhibited for one week.

DUBLIN ETAXI CLOCKS UP 55,000KM IN 18 MONTHS AND MAKES €6,500 IN SAVINGS

Cabbie Padraig Daly has driven the etaxi for 18 months and has made savings of up to €6,500.

» ESB ecars recently announced the extension of the etaxi service in Dublin for another year. This followed an 18-month trial by ESB ecars and National Radio Cabs (NRC) during which Ireland's first etaxi travelled more than 55,000km on Dublin roads and made fuel savings of approximately €6,500 with a net reduction in CO2 emissions of more than four tonnes.

FOLLOWING A VERY successful 18 month trial, ESB ecars and National radio Cabs, are extending the etaxi service in Dublin to run for at least another year.

Ireland's first etaxi travelled more than 55,000km on Dublin's roads during the trial and made fuel-savings worth about €6,500 and provided a net reduction in C02 emissions of more than four tonnes.

In addition to fuel and emission savings, there are other good financial reasons for driving an ecar or operating an etaxi.

We expect more drivers to take up the electric option

Electric vehicle owners can benefit from a government grant worth up to €5,000 off the purchase price and they also qualify for the lowest band of road-tax (€120 per annum, compared with €514 for a 1,500cc petrol vehicle). Over the 18 months, the etaxi's servicing costs were minimal.

An etaxi is usually recharged at its driver's home using low-cost night-rate electricity, using a dedicated home charge-point. The etaxi can also be easily recharged during the day at any of the on-street charge-points installed by ESB around Dublin city.

ESB ecars Manager Dermot Mcardle said, “Ireland's first etaxi trial has been a huge success and we are delighted, in conjunction with our partners, NRC taxis, to extend it by another year. This long-term trial in a real-life environment endorses the suitability of electric vehicles as taxis.”

“The etaxi has proved really popular with passengers,” said Padraig Daly of NRC taxis. “Most are pleasantly surprised at how well it performs in comparison to petrol-or diesel-fuelled cars, and how quiet it is.”

NRC taxis Managing Director liam Brady added, “NRC taxis is honoured to be associated with the ESB and the etaxi over the past two years. It has been enlightening for us, as a company, to engage with such an initiative, which is not only good for the environment but is also beneficial as a cost-saving measure in running a taxi. We would expect more drivers to take up the electric option in the coming years and NRC look forward to being a part of that etaxi future.”

The etaxi is available to the general public through the NRC pre-booking system, telephone number: 1800767676
