Finance Transformation Programme (FiTP) update

OVER THE COURSE of the last two months, the Finance Transformation Programme (FiTP) has seen a number of personnel changes on the team which have coincided with the broader senior management changes throughout ESB Group.

At the highest level within the programme team, Niall Hogan has replaced Niall Dineen as Programme Manager. Also new to the team are: John O’Sullivan and Mark Fogarty, who have joined the programme on an interim basis before they take up management positions elsewhere. Ian Martin has joined on a full-time basis as Process Lead for Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting and Emer Walsh is now Process Lead for Reporting.

Leaving the programme team are Gavan Walsh and Bernie Behan, while Brian O’Brien and Nuala Moloney have already moved on to new roles elsewhere.

With the new personnel in place, the programme team, together with finance and non-finance teams throughout the business, can continue to focus on their major deliverables through to the end of the programme, including:

  • Deployment of new finance processes across ESB Group.
  • Introduction of new reporting processes including standard Reporting Packs.
  • Implementation of new planning, budgeting and forecasting (PBF) processes including the launch of a new business intelligence tool to support PBF.

These and other deliverables, such as increased governance and risk controls, will be implemented during the first half of next year. The new finance processes will be deployed in January 2013 with the Reporting Packs being rolled out in early 2013, and the PBF business intelligence tool going live in June 2013, in line with the planning cycle for the 2014 financial year.

“These will be very challenging times for those in the business, both finance and non-finance, who we will be working closely with over the coming months. Challenging in terms of the demands being placed on their time to help deliver these milestones and challenging in terms of learning new tools and processes and adapting new behaviours” said FiTP Programme Manager Niall Hogan.

“A lot of effort will be required to deliver these new tools and processes, but once implemented they will provide a platform for ESB Finance to deliver on its strategic objectives of providing financial leadership to the business, applying efficient tools and processes, managing risk effectively and working as a high performing unified team,” said, Group Finance & Commercial Executive Director Donal Flynn.

“I would like to thank everyone for their invaluable work with the programme to date. I wish everyone the very best in their new roles and, again, I thank everyone across the business for their continued support of the work we are doing to transform ESB’s finance function.”

A HIGHLIGHT of the St. Patrick’s Credit Union 50th Anniversary Celebrations was the recent celebration honouring volunteers and staff hosted by ESB in the Head Office Restaurant. Held on Tuesday 11th September, the event was an opportunity for people involved with the Credit Union over many years to catch up and meet old friends.

In her address to the audience, Brid Horan, Executive Director ESB Services and Electric Ireland paid tribute to the national network of volunteers who have contributed so much to this flourishing organisation. ESB, she said, wanted to find a way to demonstrate the extent of the appreciation and goodwill felt by the membership for all the work carried out work by successive generations of people who have undertaken a variety of roles to deliver a wonderful level of service.

Speaking to the audience, St. Patrick’s Credit Union President George O’Driscoll paid special tribute to the agents who acted as footsoldiers for the organisation. He also addressed the challenges facing the Credit Union today, and expressed his confidence that, given the calibre of staff and volunteers involved, it would continue to flourish and to play a positive role in the lives of staff and retired staff for many years to come.

On the night special presentations were made to two founder Directors, Jim Doolin and Jim Gallagher and to long-time Credit Union Manager Chris Hussey.

ESB presented St. Patrick’s with a painting commissioned to celebrate the anniversary which illustrates the interconnectivity between the credit union, the community and the members. St. Patrick’s presented ESB with a scroll containing the names of all the staff and retired volunteers active in the Credit Union since 1962.
