Electric Test-Drive Zone at ESB Head Office
TO COINCIDE WITH Fully Charged conference and exhibition, ESB ecars organised an ecar test-drive zone to give members of the public the opportunity to test drive an electric car around Dublin city. There was strong interest from the general public with more than 900 people signing up and 50 of these were randomly selected to take part. It was a very successful event with very positive feedback from all the participants, many giving the electric car a perfect ten out of ten for performance!

Electric Avenue feature in the Exhibition Area at Fully Charge
THE ‘ELECTRIC AVENUE’ in the exhibition area at Fully Charged featured a range of electric cars from leading car manufacturers. The Volkswagen Golf, which is set to enter the Irish market at the end of 2013, made its debut at the show. Other new electric car models on display included the Volvo C30 and the Renault Twizy. Fully Charged 2012 was a satellite event of Euroscience Open Forum 2012 which opened on the evening of 11th July. This prestigious science event had many notable speakers including Maire Geoghan-Quinn, Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science who also visited the Fully Charged exhibition area.
Five Irish companies showcased electric vehicles products and services that have been trialled in Ireland in conjunction with ESB ecars. Examples included Dublin based, M2C, which has developed a smart home charge point that operates as part of a home energy management system and allows the end user to charge when electricity is at its cheapest or greenest, JTM from Wicklow who have developed one of the first mobile chargers for electric vehicles for use with rescue fleets, and Eveo solutions whose first public charger was recently installed at the Topaz service station in Dublin Port. These and other Irish firms were in a position to capitalise on the attendance of many multinationals and delegations from U.S, Japan, France, Germany, Turkey, Norway, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy and Latvia to promote their products and services to the international electric vehicle market.

Finance Transformation Programme (FiTP) update
New centralised Finance Operations teams established
TO CELEBRATE THE establishment of the centralised Finance Operations teams in ESB Networks, ESB Energy International and Business Service Centre, a coffee morning was held on Tuesday July 17th.
The event was attended by staff from all three Finance Operations as well as a number of senior managers from across ESB.
Opening the event, Donal Flynn, Executive Director, Group Finance & Commercial, said, “All three Finance Operations are working at the core of ESB’s Business Units and playing a central role in ESB Finance”.
The three separate centralised Finance Operations, with over 130 staff across four locations (Dublin, Cork, Dundalk and Waterford), provide a range of value-added services in the areas of financial accounting and reporting as well as other areas such as key controls testing, billing and income.
ESB Networks’ and ESB Energy International’s Finance Operations provide services to their respective Business Units, while the BSC’s Finance Operations team provide finance services to Corporate Centre, BSC and Electric Ireland, as well as previously centralised services such as taxes and treasury to the entire Group.
John McSweeney, Head of Innovation, speaking on behalf of ESB Energy International, welcomed staff to the new teams and congratulated them on their work to date.
Jerry O’Sullivan, Managing Director, ESB Networks Ltd. said, “the establishment of the different Business Unit Finance Operations teams is a major step forward for ESB Finance. It is an opportunity to develop best practice way of working, to become a leading finance organisation and to be part of a new team.”
Congratulating staff, Donal Flynn said, “The establishment of the Finance Operations teams is the culmination of a lot of hard work by the Programme in conjunction with all Business Units and represent the beginning of the new finance operating model for ESB.
He also noted that many Finance Operations staff, together with their colleagues in the Business Unit Finance teams, are now developing the detailed procedures required for the deployment of the new finance processes designed as part of the Finance Transformation Programme.
“The implementation of new standardised and streamlined finance processes later in the year will be a major challenge to all of finance, but it will be no greater than the challenges you’ve already overcome to get you to this point,” said Donal.
