MEET THE PEOPLE
The cornerstone of the success of St. Patrick’s is the network of committed volunteers who work with members throughout the country – let’s have a look at what the different roles involve:
AGENT PROFILE
Louise Rooney

6 years with ESB
- ESBIE now Electric Ireland
Current role and location within ESB?
Assistant Accountant - Electric Ireland Santry
Length of service with St. Patick’s CU?
Member of SPCU since I joined the company, only SPCU agent since November 2011.
I was asked by a colleague would I be an agent and after much thought I agreed as I felt it would also help me understand and know what the Credit Union has to offer and how it functions within ESB
What attracted you to the role?
I’m delighted to know about the different services offered e.g. Budget plan which I personally think is brilliant. I have been a member of a Credit Union for years and think it’s a great service provider. It’s also nice to know that I am in a position if someone is looking for information about the CU services that there is back up support in the CU team whom I can put the person in touch with for further assistance.
What satisfaction do you get from the role?
I believe my role as agent is to assist in promoting the Credit Union within the business unit, assist those that are looking for financial help i.e. loans to get the right information and help in the process, communicating to staff the new/old offers available to members generally, personal link between the CU and the staff.
Typical week/month in your role as an Agent?
Basically, a typical week/month would be liaising with the CU regarding communicating information to staff in the branch, new applications assistance if required, queries from staff regarding savings/loans etc and if unable to give an answer I follow up by contacting the CU with the question for them.

Being able to help and to give back to other members.
What satisfaction do you get from the role?
Being able to help other fellow members with managing their financial affairs and knowing they can sleep better at night.
What does your role involve?
Credit Control Committee (CCC).
Typical week/month in your role as a Director?
The CCC meets on a weekly basis (once or twice depending on numbers of cases) during lunch hours mainly to reschedule loans where members are experiencing cash flow constraints. On a monthly basis the Board holds its monthly Board Meeting to discuss any matters arising.
SUPERVISOR PROFILE
Mairead Egan
Length of service with ESB? 6 years
Current role and location within ESB?
I am working in Independent Generation (based in Head Office) on the Future Trading Project. This project’s goal is to bring 3 existing trading functions together to one new Trading Organisation while at the same time harmonising systems and processes. It’s an exciting and dynamic project and I am delighted to be part of it!
Length of service with St. Patick’s CU? One year
What attracted you to the role?
I thought that it would be a wonderful opportunity to get involved with St Patrick’s Credit Union, I have always had a fondness for Credit Unions as they deal with members on a personal level and they genuinely do want to help their members. Also the fact a Credit Union is owned by its members with the focus firmly on providing the best service for its members, (unlike some other financial institutions that operate with a sole focus on profit making off the backs of their customers!)
What satisfaction do you get from the role?
It gives me great satisfaction to know I am doing something helpful and giving something back to the Credit Union that has helped me a number of times during my time at ESB.
What does your role involve?
At a high level the role is to protect the safety and soundness of the Credit Union by supervising its financial operations and ensuring that all laws, regulations, policies and procedures are adhered to.
Typical week/month in your role as a Supervisor?
On a week/month basis, it can vary based on what’s in the work plan; whether it’s doing audits/tests, writing out to members asking them to confirm balances, reviewing member correspondence, attending Board Meetings, training on new/existing regulations or systems training.
