CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SUCCESS
ST. PATRICK’S CREDIT UNION 1962 - 2012
St. Patrick’s Credit Union (ESB Staff) Ltd. celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year. Since its foundation in 1962, the Credit Union has made a valuable and lasting contribution to ESB staff and families. It is important that, at this time of financial uncertainty for many, this contribution continues.
THIS ANNIVERSARY IS an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by so many volunteers to the success of St. Patrick’s – throughout the years a committed network of agents, officers and directors have played a central role in ensuring that our Credit Union delivers the services that our members need, thus ensuring its role as an important and valued resource for staff throughout the country.
On Thursday 17 May, a commemorative History of St. Patrick’s Credit Union was published. The history, developed by ESB Archives, provides a unique insight into the work of the organisation.
Speaking at the event, George O’ Driscoll, President of St. Patrick’s Credit Union, welcomed guests and formally thanked Directors, Supervisors, Agents, Management and Staff for their continued commitment. He also thanked the many different individuals and organisations who have supported St. Patrick’s Credit Union, particularly senior management in ESB who have provided invaluable support.
George highlighted the seven guiding principles of Credit Unions - voluntary membership, democratic member control, members economic participation, autonomy and independence, education training and information sharing, cooperation among cooperatives and concern for community all of which were reflected in their approach to conducting business. He said, “It is a matter of pride for all those in St. Patrick’s Credit Union that we always try to operate on the basis of Not for Profit, Not for Charity but for Service”.
In his address to mark the 50th Anniversary, John Campion Executive Director Sustainability & HR, stated; “Since its establishment, both management and staff in ESB view the work of the Credit Union as being commendable and deserving of full support. So much of its work is being carried out on a voluntary basis with people from different backgrounds coming together giving freely of their time and expertise. Successive generations of current and retired ESB staff and their families have benefited from having recourse to it at critical points in their lives,” said John.
Photographs and content from the commemorative publication will be featured in a Credit Union exhibition which will tour key locations over the coming months.
