The HR Transition Project

John O’Neill, HR Transition Manager.

The HR Transition Project is focused on building a highly integrated “One HR” function, delivering quality HR services across ESB, at a competitive cost. We will have standard best practice processes, the right number of staff, a strong customer focus and be cost effective. We are making excellent progress on this project.

We have brought together Project groups of HR and business expertise to design standard HR processes for implementation across ESB.

Phase 1 Projects

Our Phase 1 Project teams reviewed existing processes for the following activities:

  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Performance Management
  • Learning & Development
  • Behavioural Competency Framework

They also visited other companies to learn about any new approaches to these activities externally. They then designed new processes for ESB which are efficient, effective and are of benefit to the business and each individual who engages in them.

Implementation teams have been set up for these processes in the BSC.

Phase 2 Projects

The Phase 2 projects are designing processes for the following HR activities.

  • Organisation Development / Change Management
  • Employee Engagement and Internal Communications
  • HR Capability

They are building on expertise in the activities within ESB and drawing on professional expertise externally to design processes to be delivered in our Centres of Excellence.

Phase 3 Projects

In June we will be setting up project teams for:

  • HR Bureau / Advice Centre
  • Industrial Relations
  • Resource and Succession Planning
  • Operational tasks not already in the BSC

Intranet Project

As part of our strong focus on Customer Service, the BSC is redesigning the HR Intranet.

A Project team has reviewed the types of questions regularly received by HR staff and has begun work on redesigning a more user-friendly HR Intranet which will provide answers to these questions for you.

Our aim is to provide quick and easy access to important information/advice/forms and make our Intranet a valuable resource for managers and staff.

Next steps

In “One HR”, how we deliver HR support and expertise to our customers will change. In the coming months the HR staff in each of the businesses will be moving to their new roles in “One HR”. We will also be introducing newly designed HR processes across ESB.

We want you to be confident that you will continue to receive excellent HR support and service during this transition and into the future. We will keep you informed of the changes being made and will provide you with the support, information and training you need to make “One HR” work for you and ESB.

We will continue to evaluate the effectiveness of HR and People Management services in ESB to ensure we continue to make a valuable contribution to the business. We would also welcome your feedback on the HR Transition, now and as we progress. Contact any member of the HR Transition Team:
