ElEctric irEland has secured a €400,000 contract with the national aquatic centre to service the centre’s strategic energy requirements over the next year. the national aquatic centre (nac) had record numbers of visitors in 2011. the centre broke the 800,000 annual attendance mark for the first time and became ireland’s third most popular fee-paying attraction, with an overall 46% growth in numbers over the past five years. this year is set to be another busy year, as the centre is due to host preOlympic international teams, such as the USa Synchronised Swimming Squad, the Olympic Water Polo champions Hungary and the UK water polo squad, as they train for the upcoming london games. Similarly, Electric ireland will also share keen interest in the build up to games as Energy Partner to ireland’s Olympic team. as part of the 12-month contract, Electric ireland will supply all the dublin-based centre electricity requirements. Energy efficiency is high on the centre’s agenda and their efforts were recently recognised when they were shortlisted for the Sustainable Energy awards. With the help of Electric ireland, the nac is making great progress in reducing its energy requirements. announcing the contract, Electric ireland’s customer relationship Manager alan daisey said, “We are extremely pleased to be continuing to work with the centre; we have developed a highly flexible, innova- to make a real difference to their energy costs, with savings of up to 20% wholly achievable by using this tool”. the SEai says it is not unreasonable for a company starting out in energy management to achieve a 20% reduction in their energy bills by good housekeeping measures alone. an energy audit, such as that which the Office Energy Expert facilitates, reviews the energy usage, the setting of controls, unnecessary energy usage overnight and during week-ends etc. all of these things are invaluable to a small to mid-size company and the Office Energy Expert puts at their fingertips the tools to achieve this. Patricia callan, director of the Small Firms association (SFa), welcomed the new application, which will assist small businesses to improve efficiency. She said, “this tool is relevant for all business customers, large and small, including industrial, commercial, shops, hairdressers, bakeries, call centres, etc. the Office Energy Expert is packed with effective energy efficiency tips and can have a real impact on reducing their energy costs”. n To try the Office Energy Expert check out www.electricireland.ie/office.
