The new office, located in ankara, will provide a platform for esBi to expand its operations in the Turkish market and will house a number of support functions to support esBi projects in the country. The event happened as part of this week’s enterprise ireland trade mission of 25 irish companies to Turkey which is aimed at increasing trade between ireland and Turkey. speaking at the opening, Minister Costello said, “The opening of esB international’s office will enable them to access the significant market opportunities that Turkey, as the 16th largest economy in the world, presents. it is a demonstration of the potential that exists for irish companies both to win business in Turkey and to use Turkey as a strategic location from which to access markets in the wider geographic region”. ollie Brogan, Md esBi said: “Turkey is a key market for esB international both on account of the level of economic growth it is experiencing and the fact that it is positioned between our domestic market in europe and the Middle east where we have been operating since 1976”. esB international has appointed hakan Karaalioglu as Country Manager for Turkey. n nIe in focus Page 6 News electric Ireland feis ceoil 2012 serVICes aNd eLeCtrIC IreLaNd Page 17 PIctured at the offIcIal oPenIng of eSB InternatIonal’S offIce In ankara, turkey are kevIn Buckley, enterPrISe Ireland’S Manager for turkey, Joe coStello t.d., MInISter for trade and InveStMent and MIchael QuIgley, eSB InternatIonal. The overall programme will see the company’s cost base reduced by €280m by 2015. With this vote, staff accept the implementation of comprehensive payroll reduction proposals that will deliver 20% (€140m) savings in annual payroll costs. The programme involves an integrated package of earnings reductions and reductions in staff numbers, which was concluded following intensive negotiations between esB management and the Group of Unions. The payroll and wider cost reduction programme within the company including non-payroll elements will result in the €280m reduction. Pat said: “i would like to acknowledge the significant efforts made on all sides in agreeing a set of proposals which have now been accepted by a majority of staff. The result of the ballot is a very significant endorsement by the staff of the need to address the payroll issue so that we can all move forward together, facing the future with confidence”. executive director, sustainability & hr, John Campion said: “i welcome the acceptance of these proposals and the commitment of staff and Trade Unions to this agreement. This will ensure that the company is in a position to continue to provide a reliable and competitive electricity and gas supply to our customers”. The outcome builds on esB’s programme of restructuring and reform including the significant pension fund reforms, which were achieved in 2010. Brendan ogle, secretary of the esB Group of Unions, believes the large turnout is a testament to the engagement of Union members with the issue which was also reflected in the very large at- tendances at the Group’s 11 nationwide meetings. on the result he stated: “the turnout is impressive and the result is clear. This process has been very difficult and i want to thank all who worked on the Union side for delivering the best negotiated outcome to a most difficult problem. i hope we can now return to more normal industrial relations processes and implement this and other agreements properly again. i am sure future challenges are not very far away including on ownership/asset issues and we all on the Union side need to be as united as possible as we move on to these issues”. n In this issue n .
