Our time in Ghana
On the 13th of September, under the hot African sun, Osu, Accra shook with the sound of African drums as Ghanaian Ministers, Mayors, Chiefs, school staff, students, parents and 32 ESB Volunteers/Management danced and sang to celebrate the opening of Osu Manhean Basic School. A school once dilapidated and left abandoned, now transformed into a Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High School. The volunteers couldn’t have asked for a greater reward for all the hard work than to see and hear the smiles and laughter of some of the over 350 new students that were present to witness the commissioning of their beautiful new school. ESB Chief Executive Padraig McManus addressed the crowd and thanked the Ghanians for their friendly hospitality and thanked the volunteers and Project Team for all their time and effort in making the project such a success. After spending their last couple of days touching up Kaneshie School with a new lick of paint, some new lights and a few repair jobs, the ESB volunteers headed home with happy faces having had the experience of a lifetime.
