BERNIE HEALY
Hello and welcome
to the October/November issue of EM.
IT’S GREAT TO HAVE positive news to announce in this issue and no doubt you will all be supporting Team Ireland at the 2012 Olympics in London with even more rigour now that ESB Electric Ireland has announced its sponsorship. A real buzz permeated around SPORTSCO in South Lotts Road where the announcement took place with many leading sporting personalities joining media, Olympic hopefuls and OCI and ESB guests.
The 2012 event is getting ever nearer and should supply another badly-needed lift to the morale of the country. After the GAA all-Ireland finals and the Rugby World Cup, its good to be looking forward to another major sporting event where we are likely to succeed. A ‘new energy’ is definitely what we all need!
Another ‘zoom’ rather than a ‘buzz’ was experienced by those of us who were lucky enough to see the start of the Cannonball Run in aid of Barretstown Children’s Fund. ESB ecars took part in the event, which was extremely colourful and a real fun occasion to watch before the 150 ‘supercars’ took off to the roar of engines from Merrion Square in Dublin. The event has raised more than €235,000 over the past two years for the charity.
EM welcomes news, views, articles, letters, photos and feedback on any topic. All submitted articles should preferably be e-mailed.

Sustainability AWARDS 2011
THIS YEAR’S Sustainability Award Winners will be announced at the conclusion of Sustainability Week, on October 14th. The competition, now in its second year, illustrates the level of sustainability activity taking place throughout the country and the Sustainability Team are very encouraged by both the number and quality of entries. Sustainability Manager, Tony Carroll says “We are very heartened to see that the competition has attracted almost 240 entries this year, an increase on the 2010 entry levels. The assessment teams working through the entries report that the standard of entries is very high and reflects very well on the commitment of people throughout the country to progressing the sustainability agenda at work, at home and in their communities”.
The next edition of EM will carry a feature on the winners of the Sustainability Awards.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT LUKE SHINNORS
IN THIS, the month of Luke’s birthday, we his family, would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the tributes paid to Luke at the time of his passing.
To all who called to our home over the days of Luke’s repose, those who attended his funeral, to all of you who sent letters, Mass and sympathy cards, offered kind words or prayers of support, we thank you most sincerely.
Though our sense of loss is immeasurable, we continue to draw comfort from the messages of support and kind words that we have had and that we continue to receive.
We particularly mention Luke’s many friends and colleagues within ESB and we wish to acknowledge your support throughout Luke’s illness and the continued support over the recent months. Through this continued support we realise Luke is missed by many throughout the company.
As you will appreciate, due to the large number of people who paid their respects in one way or another and who offered such support, it would be impossible to respond individually to each one of you. We would ask, therefore, that you accept this notice as a sincere appreciation of your kindness.
The Holy Sacrifice of Mass will be offered for your intentions.
Míle buíochas as ucht bhur gcineáltas.
Loretta, Luke, Diarmaid and Lorcan.
