Sa chlár seo, a léirítear i ngaeilge, fiosraítear na teicneolaíochtaí in-athnuaite difriúla agus dírítear ar an bpáirt atá ag ESBI maidir le fuinneamh an aigéin, le béim áirithe ar fhuinneamh taoide i dTuaisceart Éireann. Tá an clár le craoladh ag deireadh mhí an Mhárta seo. Bhí baint ag ESBI le hearnáil fuinnimh an aigéin atá ag teacht chun cinn i dTuaisceart Éireann le blianta beaga anuas. Leanann sé air an comhoibriú le Marine Current Turbines (MCT) ar an tionscadal Seagen i Loch Cuan, an tuirbín ghaile is mó agus is cumhachtaí ar domhan. Tá an tuirbín atá 1.2MW agus a bhuaigh dámhachtain, i bhfeidhm ó mhí Aibreáin 2008, agus anuraidh seachadadh a 2 mhilliúnú kWh de chumhacht go dtí an eangach. Tá an chumhacht seo á díol le custaiméirí ó Thuaisceart Éireann ag ESB Independent Energy. faoi láthair, tá ESBI agus MCT ag obair le chéile chun togra a chur faoi bhráid an Bhabhta Léasaithe Muirí atá ag teacht i dTuaisceart Éireann chun Aontú do Léas a dhaingniú ó Eastát na Corónach d’fhonn toiliú foirmiúil le haghaidh tionscadail taoide amach ó chósta Aontroma. The conference, which was hosted by noel Caffrey of ESBI Human resources, opened with an address by ESBI Engineering Solutions Acting Manager Billy Byrne. Both ESB Energy International Executive Director Pat O’Doherty and ESB AS PArT Of A special feature on renewable energy in northern Ireland, Colm de Búrca, Manager of ESBI Ocean Energy, was recently interviewed in Belfast for a BBC documentary entitled Luí na Talín. The programme, which is produced in the Irish language, explores different renewable technologies and focuses on ESBI’s involvement in ocean energy, with particular emphasis on tidal energy in northern Ireland. The programme is scheduled to air in late March of this year. ESBI has had a presence in northern Ireland’s emerging ocean energy sector for some time. It continues to collaborate with Marine Current Turbines (MCT) on the Seagen project in Strangford Lough, the largest and most powerful tidal stream turbine in the world. The award-winning 1.2MW turbine has been in operation since April 2008 and last year delivered its two-millionth kWh of power to the grid. This power is being sold to northern Ireland customers by ESB Independent Energy. Both ESBI and MCT are currently working together to submit a proposal to the forthcoming Marine Leasing round in northern Ireland to secure an Agreement for Lease from the Crown Estate to commence formal consenting for a tidal project off the Antrim coast. If successful, the initial phase of the project, which will use the MCT Seagen device, could be in operation by 2016. n Lorraine Carrabin, Accountant and Emma Kenny, Financial Analyst, ESBI Investments.
