ESBI

The ESBI Financials & HR Project successfully went live on Saturday January 1st. ESBI and ESBI Independent Energy (ESBIE) are now using the same SAP platform as ESB Group for their financial and HR processes - FMIS and PHR. Significant efforts went into the project in 2010 in both developing the solution and getting the business ready for implementation.

A transition plan was developed to support the roll-out, thus ensuring the required structure was in place to support ESBI and ESBIE staff in getting to grips with the new The ESBI Financials and HR Project Team. solution, and working with staff and management to ensure that the new solution is embedded in our business and the benefits realised.

This support structure effectively went live when ESBI staff returned from the Christmas break on Tuesday January 4th, and the first weeks saw achievement of significant milestones including:

  • New Purchasing System up and running, including the successful transfer of the Accounts Payable Function to Shared Services.
  • Employee Self-Service and Manager Self-Service.
  • Updating emergency contact details.
  • Completion of timesheets, including the successful launch of a new timesheet for project costing.
  • Entering expenses.
  • New Performance Management solution rolled out with managers, starting the objective setting process.
  • Introduction of a new project numbering system.
  • ESBIE and IG making critical SEMO Payments using the new solution.

The project team is working with the business to close out any open issues. The roll-out has been a great success and thanks to all the staff in ESBI and ESBIE for their support.

ESBI

ESBEI’s Leadership Programme was launched in September 2010 and roll-out of the fourth session took place in January with participation from a range of senior, middle and team managers from all sections of the business.

Reaction to the programme has been very encouraging, with excellent feedback from a large number of attendees:

“The programme provided me with a greater understanding of key leadership challenges and methods that can be easily put into practice”.

“A nice, relaxed atmosphere - it’s the first course I have actually enjoyed”.

“An extremely practical course which was very refreshing. It provides really different solutions that can be implemented”.

“I am leaving the course with a clear idea of the areas that I need to focus on to enhance my leadership skills and advance my career”.

“I found some real/practical things to take back to the office to improve my own self management, effectiveness, team awareness and hopefully performance”.

“The outdoor activity was very enjoyable and reinforced the learning as well as creating a good bond between the class. This will help all of us build a network across the company”.

ENERGY USE

Electricity

In terms of energy use, there was a drop in electrical energy consumption of 17% in Stephen Court over 2009 figures. Along with the installation of Dyson dryers and energy-efficient lighting and controls, improved staff awareness has resulted in people turning off PCs, lights, printers and other electrical equipment. A further reduction of 10% will be targeted in 2011. Fleet Street will have the Energytracked energy monitoring system installed this year and a separate meter was installed in January. This will enable daily monitoring of consumption.

Gas

Following the installation of gas boilers in Blocks D and E of Stephen Court, Energytracked monitoring is being used to track future gas use.

Waste

Recycling for the year averaged at 78% in Stephen Court, 68% in Fleet Street and 67% in Cork. Target for 2011 is to reach 80% in all locations. Waste by weight dropped by 12% in Stephen Court and increased by 3% in Cork.
